Permanently unloading the usb-storage kernel module under FC3

Hi Everyone, I have a 160G NTFS partitioned USB external disk drive that I would like to use in my VMware instance. I tried to get VMware to recognize the drive but it failed to do so because the Linux USB driver had it locked. Removing and re-attaching the drive did not release the driver lock. What resolved the problem was to unload the usb-storage kernel module using the command: /sbin/rmmod usb-storage This works great but the module reappears the next time I boot the beast. Does anyone know of a way to make this permanently go away? Any help you can provide on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Andy

Is there any interest in a linux fundamentals talk? It seems like I am the noobi'est member of the lug and don't want to bore everyone, but a discussion around basic installs (partitioning, swap size, boot loaders, etc), upgrades (apt, yum, emerge), application installs (rpm's, source) and kernel patching and upgrades would be a good nights discussion. HI Everybody, We have a WLUG meeting coming up this week on Wednesday, March 23rd, at 7:00 PM in the Access Grid room on the WPI Campus in Worcester, MA USA. At this meeting, yours truly will be giving a talk about how Linux was used to create video DVDs from files created by a TV capture card. In this talk, there will be a demo of simple video editing, creation of the DVD menu, and creation of the DVD files and directory structure. If there is time, we might be visited by Drs. Howard, Fine, and Howard. I'll have two books for the no-cost raffle. Maybe someone will come to the meeting just to try to win one of these: Building Applications with the Linux Standard Base The Design and Implementation of the FreeBSD Operating System After the meeting, anybody who is intersted can join the crowd for some pizza either across campus or on Highland Street. WLUG meetings are open to the public. There are no admission fees or membership dues. We do accept small donations if you are feeling generous. :-) Soda and cookies will be provided at the meeting. Thanks for all the suggestions re. changing default email client - I found the selectable preferences under the Gnome Control Center - couldn't find anything equivlent in the KDE Control Center though. Now all I have to do is figure out how to have the kPilot memos (that I synched from my Visor Prism) to transfer to the Notes module in Kontact Raja Mukherjee
