Hi gang,
ACPI is FINALLY compiled into Mandrake's kernel; but
I'm having a hitch. While the kernel will boot with acpi
enabled every now and again, most times it gets to a point
where keventd is called for and the kernel message is that
it hasn't started yet.
Any ideas what on earth might be happening? I'm going to
the acpi list as well, but I'd see if any of you linux
laptop users have had this problem (there are google hits
for this problem, but I'm hitting a dead end there).

Hi gang,
I've hit a snag with mdk 9.1, the driver for my web cam no longer
supports the default palette for gnomemeeting. So it tells me to check
my driver docs to see what palettes are supported.... where is a good
place to find kernel-driver docs?
The module is pwc in case you were wondering.....

HI everybody,
I had an idea...let me know what you think of it.
I was thinking about creating a part of the WLUG website that would be a set
of links to open source projects in which WLUG members are actively involved.
For example, I wrote the users' guide for the GimpPrint software, so there
would be a link to the GimpPrint website.
If you think this is a good idea, please send me e-mail with your name,
project name, and your involvement (doc writer, coder, tester, etc).
Thanks,
Andy

I'm not sure what Maddog's rules are on this, but would anybody
(specifically, those at WPI, who might have access to the equipment) be
interested in taping the lecture tonight?
I've got access to a NLE machine and a DVD-R burner, so I could make DVD's
out of the lecture if people would be interested.
Thanks,
Tim.
Eureka!
I can't take credit for finding the fix, my co-worker found it on Usenet via
google groups...
The temporary solution was to export LANG=en_US the permanent solution is to
edit /etc/sysconfig/i18n to make it permanent.
I hope this helps others...
Tim.

Subject: [Wlug] Weird garbage characters in info/man
I just created a RH 8.0 box for testing and when I go into info, there's
garbage characters all over the place.
Here's an example from the "info rpm" page...
rpm {âEURâEURq|âEURâEURâEURâEURquery} [selectâEURâEURoptions]
[queryâEURâEURoptions]
I'm connected to the box vis SSH using teh "F-Secure SSH" client for
windows. I've never had an issue with any other box.
It's almost like some library or character set didn't get installed...
Thanks,
Tim.

I just added 128 MB of memory to my Dell Optiplex GX1, and now my
sound card (on motherboard CS 4236) is no longer recognized. It's
possible that I did something bad to the motherboard when inserting
the memory cards. Or, is there any way that adding memory (now 128 +
128 + 64) could disable the sound?
TIA,
Bill
Hi Everybody,
I'm sending out this reminder early in the hope that we'll have alot of people
coming to this WLUG meeting. At this meeting, our guest speaker will be Jon
'maddog' Hall. maddog is the executive director of Linux International and a
great speaker. He has spoken at two (or three?) previous WLUG meeting and
we're happy to have him back again.
The meeting will be held in Kinnicutt Hall on the WPI campus in Worcester, MA
(the usual place). If you need directions, they can be found on the WLUG
website. Light refreshments will be served, and I'll bring a couple of items
for the free (as in beer) raffle.
After the meeting, we'll go out for pizza and beer at the Boynton Restaurant.
Please pass the word around to all of your Linux friends!
Later,
Andy
