Hi,
Anyone on here using Charter Telephone VOIP service? I've currently
got Verizon, but the wife hates it because our phone lines get flaky
all the time, esp when it rains.
So I'm thinking to save money and combine all my stuff onto Charter.
I've already got High Speed internet and regular old cable. Not wild
about Digital Cable since I'm happy with Tivo and I don't want yet
another set top box to have to deal with...
So, any horror stories about Charter Phone VOIP quality and service?
Thanks,
John
Sorry, I keep forgetting which email address I signed up with...
I would add quotes and use while, just in case the directory names have
spaces and such. "for" splits on any whitespace, which could be quite
troublesome.
grep -RFl "moe" somedirectory/ | while read file; do echo mv "`dirname
"$file"`" "destination_path"; done

Adding to that:
for FILE in $( grep -lRF moe somedirectory/* ) ; \
do echo mv -v $(dirname "$FILE") destination_path ; done
Remove the "echo" and repeat if it looks Ok.
Uses dirname to move the containing directory.

Looking for some guidance;
I have several files within several folders (5 files per folder, and
thousands of folders) that I need to search a text file within each
folder for a word match (like three_little_pigs.txt, and I need to find
"moe", if he's listed) and then when a match is found I need to move
(not copy) that entire folder (and it's 3~5 files contained within) to
another location...
I'm thinking grep, but don't know the correct syntax to make all this
happen.
I can easily find all the folders (1949 of them) and the word match 3923
times within the text file(s)...
Any ideas???

This position just opened in our organization and I thought some people in the group would be interested. It is a customer facing, multi-fasceted role:
The SiteSpect Implementation Engineer is a technical expert who is responsible for the configuration, deployment, and support of SiteSpect's core products. This is an engineering position that requires experience in Unix system management, Web applications management, load balancing, and networking/DNS. As this is also a customer-facing role, it requires the ability to communicate technical instructions to both experienced and less experienced clients.
This is an ideal opportunity for system and network administrators with a history of working with both technical (IT) and non-technical (business and marketing) teams to define system requirements, plan projects, and ultimately deliver solutions.
Requirements
* 3+ years of Linux/Unix administration and troubleshooting.
* 2+ years of experience with solutions architecture for DNS, load balancers and CDNs.
* Web server configuration, tuning, and administration.
* Shell scripting such as bash, perl, python, or PHP.
* Experience with system monitoring tools such as nagios, sar, or sec.
Responsibilities include scheduled on-call duty and occasional travel to assist customers with installations and system maintenance.
Candidates should have experience working in a team environment alongside other engineers and product managers. You should be comfortable with the dynamic and fast pace that is typical for an Internet software startup.
This is a full time position located in our office in downtown Boston, MA.
Application Process
If this sounds like you, then SiteSpect might be your next home. As the company that leads its market space in power and innovation, we guarantee excitement, challenge and an unlimited opportunity to contribute. Interested candidates should submit their resume and cover letter via email to tcohen(a)sitespect.com.
To attract and retain the best talent, we offer competitive salary and a suite of benefits including medical and dental insurance, 401(k) plan, flexible spending account (FSA), and an employee stock option program. SiteSpect, Inc. is headquartered in historic downtown Boston, MA, just steps from the State House and accessible to MBTA and commuter rail stations.
No agencies, recruiters, or phone calls, please.

Hi All,
I wanted to follow up on a few threads from last night's meeting...
- I learned from Tim's presentation that Pygame wraps SDL, as well
as providing other useful classes and code.
I happened to be poking around the Spore installation on my
Macbook, and I found that it uses SDL, and even includes source!
guinan@macbook:~ $ find /Applications/SPORE/SPORE.app/
...
/Applications/SPORE/SPORE.app//Contents/Frameworks/SDL.framework
/Applications/SPORE/SPORE.app//Contents/Frameworks/SDL.framework/Headers
/Applications/SPORE/SPORE.app//Contents/Frameworks/SDL.framework/Headers/begin_code.h
/Applications/SPORE/SPORE.app//Contents/Frameworks/SDL.framework/Headers/close_code.h
/Applications/SPORE/SPORE.app//Contents/Frameworks/SDL.framework/Headers/SDL.h
...
/Applications/SPORE/SPORE.app//Contents/Frameworks/SDL.framework/SDL-source-with-transgaming-updates.tar.gz
...
Not Linux-specific, sure, but neat that SDL is used in one of the
biggest games of the past year.

- Andy and other ham enthusiansts, you might like this podcast,

Its mostly about Ham radio, but also homebrew electronics in general,
with some amateur astronomy, and in recent episodes he's been doing
more and more with Linux.

Hi Everybody,
My apologies for the late notice. We do indeed have a WLUG meeting on
Wednesday evening, October 21, 2009 at 7:00 PM on the WPI campus.
Our speaker will be WLUG member Tim Keller, and the topic will be Pygame.
The meeting room is near the former Access Grid room. If you walk into
the main entrance to Morgan Hall, and turn right toward the dining hall,
you will see a door on your right just before the dining hall. Enter
that door and there will be a short hallway. We will be in the room on
the right. This is the same place where we met last month.
I'll try to remember to put up a penguin poster to guide you.
Afterwards, we'll go out for pizza and more great conversation, as is
our tradition.
Any and all are welcome to attend.
Andy
