Charter Telephone reviews, boylston?
by John Stoffel
Hi,
Anyone on here using Charter Telephone VOIP service? I've currently
got Verizon, but the wife hates it because our phone lines get flaky
all the time, esp when it rains.
So I'm thinking to save money and combine all my stuff onto Charter.
I've already got High Speed internet and regular old cable. Not wild
about Digital Cable since I'm happy with Tivo and I don't want yet
another set top box to have to deal with...
So, any horror stories about Charter Phone VOIP quality and service?
Thanks,
John

If anyone is interested in a talk on SSDs, chime in. I can present my
experiences with these devices. I've evaluated the performance of
several vendors' products, ranging from the poor to the exemplary. I
can talk about the modifications made in the block layer to accommodate
for these devices, and the current implementation of the block discard
support (which maps to ATA TRIM, which is important for device lognevity
and performance) and how that is wired up to file systems such as ext4.
Cheers,
Jeff

HI Frank,
I think that would be a great topic for our next meeting. Shall I
update the website accordingly?
Thanks,
Andy

Meeting topics
by Frank Sweetser
I've noticed that not too many people have putting in meeting topic requests,
so I thought that if anyone's interested I'd volunteer to throw together some
slides on BtrFS.
For those of you who haven't heard of it, BtrFS is the next generation linux
filesystem. Though still in heavy development, it was included in the
mainstream kernel last year. It promises to scale to filesystems well beyond
what any of the current offerings can handle (including ext4), as well as
offering far greater flexibility and better data security for data admins.
If you have anything else that you'd like to hear about, either instead of or
in addition to BtrFS, chime in, and hopefully someone else on the list will be
able to make it happen!

[OT]Seeing SCSI devices in Solaris
by Chuck Noyes
Hi All,
This may a bit [OT], but ...
At work we have several Sparc servers running Solaris 10u8 that are connected to storage arrays via fiber cables and switches.
Some of these hosts can have thousands of connections and can take hours to boot!
Does anyone know a way to view the scsi connections in Solaris? In RedHat, I can do a cat /proc/scsi/scsi and see the connections.
How can I do this in Solaris? devfsadm doesn't seem to give me what I want, and Google doesn't provide too much help.
TIA,
-Chuck

Greetings
by Klene, Matthew
Hello,
As a recent subscriber to the user group I was hoping to make my first
user group gathering this evening. I was writing to confirm that the
meeting scheduled this evening was still a go, and the information on
the website containing time and location (room next to Morgan Hall
dinning center) was correct.
Regards,
Matt Klene
