Hi All,
Thanks for the input I recieved here, I've bought an Epson R300 color
printer for making photos. Once I figured out that the debian package
for libcupsys has the permissions borked for the files in
/usr/lib/cups/backend so that they aren't executable, all is well.
I've been happily browsing images in 'gqview', then loading them into
gimp 2.0, then printing them.
But I'm having issues with scaling images. I have to guess how/where
to crop the images so that I can get the maximum amount of the picture
onto the paper. It's a real pain, with lots of back and forth.
Is there a tool out there, or a gimp plugin, which allows me to take a
picture, select a paper size and gives me a template to crop/scale the
image to fit that paper size nicely? Any hints on what tools/packages
I should be looking at for this type of work?
For example, I've got a picture of my nephew and son which I wanted to
print out. I also wanted to zoom in a bit (or crop the image down to
get closer to them) so that when it printed, I maximized the use of
the 4x6 stock. A real pain in gimp 2.0, but since I'm just using the
standard Debian install, maybe there is a plugin to help with this?
Thanks,
John
Would anyone here HAPPEN to know of any yum repositories for Aurora Linux
(Sparc flavor, 1.0 is based on RH 7.3, 1.9x is based on Fedora)?
I've been looking for a repository for upgrading my 1.0 installation to
the latest 1.91/1.92, but I cannot find an up-to-date repository. 8(
(For anyone that's curious, I'm running Aurora on my Sparc Ultra60...)
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated...

If the install base is NT based, you could use hfnetchk (which SUS is based
on) to check, and kixtart to do the grunt work of patching.

Chuck,
I'm not sure what versions of windows your have in your install base,
however the easiest thing is to just configure them to download and install
the patches themselves.
As for the other programs, are these things that have to be "installed" or
can they be raw copied out to the machines? If it's the latter, then you
could just configure the login script stuff to run a local script that would
check to see if it's already been run, if so do nothing, otherwise copy a
bunch of files and import some registry keys, etc.
Tim.

Subject: [Wlug] Samba PDC Question
Hello all,
I'm running Samba 3 as my PDC for a large number of computers.
What I'd like to be able to do is push out patches and programs to the
computers that are logged into this domain. I know that with SMS and
Windoze Active Directory I can do this, however I don't want to use Windows
as my PDC. Does anyone know of any software I can use to accomplish this
with samba?
thanks,
Chuck

Hi,
Does anyone have a recommendation of a good photo printer under Linux?
I've heard good things about Epson printers, specifically the 2200
series.
I need a printer with USB connection, and good quality output (under
Linux, gimp-print?) of pictures/photos.
Thanks,
John

I recently upgraded this machine (was running FC2) to FC3 test3. Everything
works great, but I noticed one really odd anomaly.
If I open up an app, and move it to the second head (this machine has duel
monitors and is running Xinerama) it disappears from the task bar. Now if I
pick the app up and move it back over to the primary monitor it reappears on
the task bar.
I've routed through the settings, and nothing *looks* amiss. Anybody got
any ideas?
Later,
Tim.
