Hi,
I have a server running Mandrake 8.2. I had a problem
unmounting a CDROM (I hate supermount!), so I rebooted the
server. On the way back up, the NFS service hung. This is
now the second time this has happened. (The first time, I
attributed it to students messing with the server, and
reinstalled everything.) Now, after two days of getting
things back to normal, it's happened again, this time sans
students.
I'm writing this from home, as the school's link to the
Internet is down. Anyone know where the relevant state data
for NFS is stashed?
Thanks,
Skip
yeah....
I'm trying to teach myself pascal. What with the new release of Freepascal,
and what with Delphi6/Kylix being out, I figure I should get something done
while I'm out pounding pavement.
Anyone know of any used book stores that have a decent computer section?
I tried Another Story on Stafford St., but he didn't have anything for pascal. :(
Any help is appreciated,
Thanks
James

The WLUG list should be fixed for everyone now. If anyone knows of any
problems with it, feel free to email me directly.

There's been some issues with the new mail server setup on campus,
so this is a test message to make sure it gets out...

Perl has a long tradition of working around compilers.

Greetings!
A shell script question:
Can anyone tell me the pros & cons of coding your shell scripts to
stay in-process instead of spawning a child process when needed?
For example,
${VARIABLE##*/}
instead of
`basename $VARIABLE`
I'm trying to use the former as much as possible now but I wasn't exactly
sure if that is better, not so safe or just doesn't matter.
Thanks!

Hi guys,
I'm cleaning the garage and I want to get rid of stuff. I've got a
pair of sparc classics, probably installed with Linux, plus about 8 or
so brand new sun keyboards, somce mice and maybe other stuff.
First one to email gets it all. I can try to bring it to the next
meeting, or we can arrange a pickup off list.
