Hi everybody,
Novell is offering a free Linux Technical Resource kit to WLUG members (and
other LUGs, I'm sure). To get it, you'll need to go to their website and
answer a bunch of questions. Here is the information, in case you are
interested. If anybody gets one of these, I'd be curious to know what they
think of it.
=====
"Novell Customer Communities is pleased to offer members of the
Worcester Users Group the free Linux Technical Resource Kit. With its
acquisition of SuSE and Ximian, Novell has committed itself to the Linux
market in a very substantial way. Now you can evaluate for yourself the
value that Novell brings to the Linux market and to your business. The
Kit contains well over 10 gig of licensed and evaluation software,
patches and fixes, and other tools and resources that will give you
everything you need to evaluate and get to know the current hot
technologies. A partial list of the Kit contents include:
- SuSE 9.1 Professional (the very latest from SuSE)
- SuSE 8.0 Linux Enterprise Server
- Novell Nterprise Linux Services 1.0
- Ximian Desktop2 Eval
- GroupWise for Linux 1.0
- Red Carpet 2.02 Eval
- And lots more...
To order your free kit simply go to
http://www.novell.com/community/linux/order.php?sourceid=uswma and
follow the instructions. This is a great benefit to introduce you to
Linux technology from Novell and to Novell Customer Communities. Act now
as supplies are limited."

Folks,
Anyone know of a good FireWire and/or USB 2.0 external Hard Drive
case? It's got to have a builtin powersupply and be durable. Any
suggestions appreciated.

Hi everybody,
I've finally gotten around to updating the WLUG website - my apologies for
the
delay.
o slides from June talk are available (bootsplash and gfxboot)
o slides from John Rulnick's talk about Bay Path College linux
courses
Also, an early reminder about the annual WLUG BBQ , which will be held in
Shrewsbury, MA USA at Doug Waud's house on Wednesday, July 21st at 6:00 PM
(yes, that's 6:00 PM and its not a misprint (is it Doug??)). We will not
have a meeting at WPI on this date - we'll all be at Doug's house.
Oh, BTW, in years past, Doug has allowed us to use the pool, but for some
reason, nobody has ever taken the plunge! This year, we need to change
that. :-) No, I don't mean that Doug won't allow us to use the pool, but
that we should actually *avail ourselves* of the opportunity. If you have
wearable computing, be sure its waterproof.
Have a great July 4th weekend !
Andy

HI all,
I just received a request for some Linux expertise.
- ------
I was wondering if you knew of any programmers (php/apache/mysql)
through the WLUG who would be interested in helping me customize the
opensourced medical practice and billing management program Openemr
(www.synitech.com).
- ------
If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact me directly and I'll
send you the contact information.
Later,
Andy

Well, before seeing this email, I bought ANSI Common Lisp off amazon the
other
day and it just came him; reading through it now! I looked at a history of
lisp somewhere (I think in a link in the Common Lisp Hypertext, of which I
was directed to from reviews on amazon) and heard Scheme described as
basically a Pascal equivalent of Scheme in the sense that it was designed to
teach, not to use. Of course, knowing nothing about Lisp and its dialects, I
believed this, having the new 1000-level CS class that teaches Scheme seem
also to point in that direction; hearing your feelings concerning Scheme,
however, makes it seem as though I have been misinformed (alas, the curse of
the internet!).
Well, I'm teaching myself Common Lisp now, anywho. The book I got was highly
recommended, both as an introductory Lisp book and as a great reference for
Common Lisp. The book is put out by Prentice Hall as part of there Series In
Artificial Intelligence, and being that that is what drew me to teaching
myself Lisp in the first place, seems like a good place to start. I'll check
out one of the local university libraries here (I'm in lower Rhode Island, by
the way) and see if I can pick up some of those books you've mentioned. Thank
you all very much.
Hi. Well, I figure since Lisp is such an important language,
especially in GNU/Linux systems (favorite of Stallman afterall)
I should pose this question to this group. Basically I'm interested
in learning Lisp and was wondering if anyone has some
favorite or recommended books that describe the syntax of
Lisp. Additionally books related to introductory artificial
intelligence work, with algorithms, design issues, et cetera,
especially books with example Lisp code would be
very welcome. Thanks.
