Hi All,
Thanks for the input I recieved here, I've bought an Epson R300 color
printer for making photos. Once I figured out that the debian package
for libcupsys has the permissions borked for the files in
/usr/lib/cups/backend so that they aren't executable, all is well.
I've been happily browsing images in 'gqview', then loading them into
gimp 2.0, then printing them.
But I'm having issues with scaling images. I have to guess how/where
to crop the images so that I can get the maximum amount of the picture
onto the paper. It's a real pain, with lots of back and forth.
Is there a tool out there, or a gimp plugin, which allows me to take a
picture, select a paper size and gives me a template to crop/scale the
image to fit that paper size nicely? Any hints on what tools/packages
I should be looking at for this type of work?
For example, I've got a picture of my nephew and son which I wanted to
print out. I also wanted to zoom in a bit (or crop the image down to
get closer to them) so that when it printed, I maximized the use of
the 4x6 stock. A real pain in gimp 2.0, but since I'm just using the
standard Debian install, maybe there is a plugin to help with this?
Thanks,
John
Would anyone here HAPPEN to know of any yum repositories for Aurora Linux
(Sparc flavor, 1.0 is based on RH 7.3, 1.9x is based on Fedora)?
I've been looking for a repository for upgrading my 1.0 installation to
the latest 1.91/1.92, but I cannot find an up-to-date repository. 8(
(For anyone that's curious, I'm running Aurora on my Sparc Ultra60...)
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated...

I was just wondering if anyone had any success using PCI-X/PCI-Express
cards under linux. I was looking through the kernel and don't see any
specific settings strictly for PCI-X bus. I wonder if they *just work*
with PCI support enabled, as AGP does.
I'm specifically interested if anyone has got hardware 3D acceleration
working with a PCI-X video card. I'm looking at getting a mid-range NVidia
card, since their drivers are at least useable under linux, compared to
the atrocious performance and glitches the ATI proprietary drivers have
(and the open drivers being worked on are not overly worried with the card
I have, and the R300 driver doesn't have any sort of 3D acceleration right
now).
As far as I can understand from the docs on nvidia's website, it seems
like it'll just work, but was interested if anyone had any success. In
particular I'm looking at the nvidia 6600gt series. Any input would be
much appreciated. Thanks.

Has anyone gotten a WPC11 ver 3 wireless card to work in suse 9.1?
YaST detects the card, however I cannot get it to use WEP correctly
and since both WPI and my home network require it, I'm outta luck
right now. Any help with this would be much appreciated.

Hi Everyone,
We'll be having our next WLUG meeting on Thursday, November 11th at 7:00 PM in
the usual place.
Chuck Anderson is going to talk to us rather informally (a la the Gentoo
meeting) about what is new and different in Fedora Core 3. He'll also have a
PC or two for a live demo.
Coming in December:
Our guest speaker at the December 15th meeting will be Jon 'maddog' Hall. If
you never come to another WLUG meeting, be sure you make it to this meeting!
maddog is a fantastic speaker that you don't want to miss. He has spoken at
several WLUG meetings in the past and the feedback has been universally
positive. Please see the WLUG website for more details about maddog's talk.
Starting in January 2005:
It looks like our meeting location will be used for a class on Wednesday
evening. It may be possible for us to find another location on campus for
our Wednesday meetings. Another possibility is to have occasional meetings
on Monday evening. Right now, we alternate between Wednesday and Thursday
evening. I know that if we changed to Mon/Thurs meeting nights, some folks
would like it and others would not. There's really no way to make everybody
happy here, except perhaps to find another campus location for Wednesday
evening meetings. Stay tuned...nothing is definite yet.
Later,
Andy
