Hi,
Anyone on here using Charter Telephone VOIP service? I've currently
got Verizon, but the wife hates it because our phone lines get flaky
all the time, esp when it rains.
So I'm thinking to save money and combine all my stuff onto Charter.
I've already got High Speed internet and regular old cable. Not wild
about Digital Cable since I'm happy with Tivo and I don't want yet
another set top box to have to deal with...
So, any horror stories about Charter Phone VOIP quality and service?
Thanks,
John
I'm down.

Yes please.
Would people be interesting in me doing a talk on Elastasearch / LogStash /
Kibana (ELK) with some graphana fun through in for good measure?
I spoke with my buddy Nick about doing a crypto talk but he's going to be
too busy in Feb. to do it.
Thanks,
Tim.

Ken was having problems posting and asked me to do so.

John,
Please forward this to WLUG. It keeps rejecting my messages.
WLUG members:
I have two not working SUN ULTA1 1995 machines to give away.
Included is a third working(?) power supply.
Also I have a good display, key board and mouse.

If I can not give them away, I am forced to trash them....

Heh. I'm losing it too, at least according to the eye rolls from my
kids.

This makes no sense to me. If there's no power... how is the sucker
moving when you hit the button?
Can you just pull the cover off the system, unplug *everything* execpt
the power cord and press the power button on the front? You might
need to hit the power switch on the back... trying to remember if it
was a toggle, or a hard on/off switch. The U2 has a toggle... U5/U10
is hard on/off. Cannot remember the U1 switch. Sorry.
Ebay to the rescue! It's a toggle switch on the back for power. No
front panel power switch.
Anyway, with the power connected and the power switch pressed, what
happens? Does the CPU fan spin? If not, you're going to need to
replace it first off.
If the fan wiggles but does not spin when you power on the system, try
reaching in and giving it a twist, it might then start spinning, but
not likely.
You should hear some beeps and boops at this point, time to dig up old
manuals and see what they say for trouble shooting.
But honestly, just toss it and get a BeagleBone of Raspberry Pi to
play with instead. More memory and cpu speed for sure. :-)

Does the keyboard flash when this happens? I assume you're trying
this with the keyboard/mouse plugged into the system?
I have a bit of experience too, and I think I have a bunch of connectors.
Let me know if you want me to bring a few.

Which model Ultra? I spent alot of time on the Ultra 1 140/170
models, Ultra 2 (still got one running at work!), along with Ultra
5/10 and newer. You need to provide more details on the exact model,
and also let us know what other elements the system has in it.
Do you have it on a serial console or a monitor? Finding those old
Sun 13W3 monitor connectors is a pain, though I probably have some
kicking around to goto VGA if I look hard enough.
For the Ultra 1 series, make sure the CPU fan spins. They had a heck
of a time with them dying and then overheating.
The Ultra 2 is a slightly simpler beast, but I'd just pull one of the
two procesors and all but two sticks of memory. As I recall, you want
it in some certain slot order, not right next to each other.
Pull the disks, they're not needed at this point, you want to see what
the BIOS shows on bootup first. And if you don't have a monitor and
keyboard hooked up, then you will want a 9600 serial connection.
