We have a couple of clients here in MA looking for Linux consulting help. Details are as follows: Mid to Sr level Linux drivers Engineer Linux driver development contract for 9+ months in embedded development team. Job responsibilities include learning hardware from hardware design specs, developing a design and documenting it, developing the design, and debugging the driver in an embedded environment. Preferred candidate would have 3-6 years of Linux driver development. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Focus will be on design and development of 2.6 Linux kernel drivers for proprietary FPGAs and some 3rd party parts like Ethernet switches. Experience developing Linux drivers in an embedded environment. Experience developing Linux drivers in Linux 2.6.current kernel is preferred but 2.4 is acceptable. Experience with PowerPC or processors Experience debugging Linux drivers. Able to work with current team members including kernel, driver, and application disciplines. Good oral and written communication skills. ************************************************************************ ************* Sr to Prin Level consultant (6 mths) Our Client is looking for a Linux Engineer to port their existing systems software platform (drivers, BSP's, kernel, applications) from 2.4 to 2.6 Linux. This effort has just started and and THEY have the kernel up and running (bash shell). Will upgrade the existing build infrastructure for loadable kernel modules to comply with Linux kbuild. Port existing loadable kernel modules, applications, and libraries written for version 2.4.20 to 2.6.17. Apply third-party and proprietary patches to the kernel source. Assist with hardware and user mode Linux-based simulator startup and initialization. Ideally, we need someone who has worked on this exact type of porting effort and has dealt with many of the issues/challenges in this type of port. Experience with UML is required since they use User ModeLinux as their Emulation/Development tool. We have a client looking for Unix File Systems long-term consulting help. This work can be done remotely with occasional visits to client site out of state. Details are as follows: Project Description: This is a need for a Sr. File Systems Engineer to work remotely via a virtual office, There is potential for a client visit every 6-8 weeks. This is a very strategic and high visibility project with a large end-client. Optical based storage, OSD project. This resource will be part of the core program that is in charge of fully designing a file system for work in conjunction with an OSD driver. There are around 5 people on the project - 2 SCSI engineers/1 file systems engineer/1 embedded engineer. They are in the architecture phase right now. I had a really bad experience trying to buy a 1U server from a vendor I saw in Linux Journal, thinking I'd support a "linux-friendly" company. Well, after they charged my CC, it took them 3 *weeks* to start the system burn-in, the system *failed* burn-in, they said it would take at least another week... so I finally told them to screw off and got my money back. I ended up buying a dirt-cheap 1U Celeron (Cybertron) from TigerDirect, which I colo'd with a Level3 reseller in Cambridge. Its been humming along for 2 years so far. Seeking Linux help for area non-profit - compensation potential

Please do not reply to the list or to me. Boylston's public cable access channel (WBAC) is seeking to expand its services and offer Video on Demand and video file upload and download services for its staff and eventually the community. They currently have their web site and email hosted with an ISP and they are happy with that, but the ISP cannot provide them with these new services. They are looking for help in installing and configuring a linux box off their private LAN for this purpose. They also need other general help with their setup including configuring and troubleshooting VPN connections via their netgear VPN/firewall, etc. These folks are sort of windows literate, and they recognize that Linux will provide them with the most secure and cost-effective solution to meet their growing needs at this time. Ideally, they are seeking Boylston residents, but they are willing to bring in help from outside their community. They are also able to reasonably compensate for the above mentioned services and/or barter for access to their fine production equipment. If you are intersted in learning more about video and television production, this may be well worth your effort. Ok, so I did, gpg --recv-keys ... [everyone's ID from the meeting ] gpg --fingerprint ... [ confirm fingerprints ] for key in ... ; do gpg --sign-key $key; done for key in ... ; do gpg --send-key $key; done Now "gpg --list-keys" shows all the keys I expected to see. doug> I got an idea for a WLUG talk, having trolled the SW-devel-mail-list and used sparingly the excellent APC-UPS free sw at http://www.apcupsd.com I've got a small-enough APC SmartUPS and a laptop or 2 I could do this on. What I don't have (or can't yank out of the lab here at work) COULD USE....dont really NEED: ....an APC UPS with the more modern USB port....reasonably small. (the SW supports serial/"COM1" cable/interface, or USB/HID... I'm very weak on the HID stuff, but it probably just works.) So this lure is to see who does have apc w/usb... and wants to try-and-or-demo this. and When's the june meeting ? (I forget what month the party is.)
