Looking for a good VPS provider

Guys, I'm looking for a new provider to host my domain, which is mostly email only. Some small web presense. I'm currently on Linode, but since Charter is blocking all of Linode's IP space from sending email... it kinda makes it hard to keep in touch with neighbors who have @charter.net email addresses. Don't want to spend a ton,but I would like to get something with a dedicated IP and 2gb of RAM, or maybe a little more. Not much more than that. I don't want any management, I'll do it all myself. Hi all, Great to see you all in the last meeting :-) I was the skateboarder...who caught me almost falling shortly before I left? LOL ----------- Remote X [Insert name I've forgotten here (sorry!)] mentioned that their users connect to a remote session's root desktop (or whatever you call the initial/primary display :0 deal that you initially/locally get). I would like to do this as well. SSH with port forwarding is probably my preference, but wireguard would be OK as well. I don't think I want to directly expose anything like xrdp. Anyway - could you please refresh my memory as to what was being used? I'm running i3 in this case (started via lightdm). I generally have not loved using VNC-based tools, but if that's what is currently recommended, I guess I'll give it another go. ------------ SSHFS Optimization Also - I referred to using sshfs internally for myself to my NAS, and some optimizations for it. This is my current alias to mount it: sshfs -o cache=yes -o kernel_cache -o Ciphers=aes128-ctr -o Compression=no -o ServerAliveCountMax=3 -o ServerAliveInterval=15 -o reconnect -C -o idmap=user server: /mymountpoint I got a few of the recommended switches from this article that finally convinced me to just forget about NFS: https://blog.ja-ke.tech/2019/08/27/nas-performance-sshfs-nfs-smb.html Thanks! Chris PS - I used to respond here from an account that was at from a riseup.net account. I have since moved to mailbox.org so it at least 'comes from' wolcen.com...I hate/am terrible at managing email servers. Anyway: all those responses/posts therefore were moderated. Hey Everybody, I'm moving the meeting to the 15th! We brought up a whole bunch of interesting meeting ideas last meeting. QUIK was talked about. We also talked about redoing the KiCAD talk so we could see the full talk (and actually record it!) We also talked about deep diving into the new wifi standards. PiKVM as well as FOSS music players and piCroft. Let me know what you might be interested in talking about. I hope all wlug members have a fantastic Thanksgiving. While you're wondering about what to talk about, they've just introduced some new data measurements. The largest being a quettabyte. https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-022-03747-9 I wonder what filesystem you'd even use to manage a quettabyte? Hey Gang! I unfortunately have a conflict on the 10th and the 17th! I'm moving the meeting to the 9th. A couple of people have pulled me aside and asked about moving the meeting to Wednesday.. you've gotten your wish. As usual, the meeting will be online (now with new and improved A/V tech!) We'll obviously be talking about the heartbleed bug.. Linux kernel 6.0 among other things! More details to come! A rich set of edit and retouch functions is available. Import RAW files and edit with deep color. Save revised images as JPEG, PNG (8/16 bits/color), or TIFF (8/16). Select an object or area within an image (freehand draw, follow edges, flood matching tones...), apply edit functions, copy and paste, resize, blend, warp, etc. without using layers. Edit functions have fast feedback using the full image or selected zoom-in area. Edit image metadata (tags, geotags, dates, ratings, captions...). Search images using any combination of metadata and file and folder names or partial names. Click a marker on a scalable world map to view all photos from that location. Batch functions are available to rename, add/revise metadata, copy/move, resize, convert format. Fotoxx uses your image files wherever they are and maintains a separate index for fast searching. Fotoxx is standards compliant and can be used with other photo programs (no lock-in). Fotoxx is easy to use but unconventional, so read the user guide (at least the first few pages) before jumping in. Fotoxx has deep functionality. Do not expect to master it in a few minutes. Along with the presentation, as usual expect the usual amount of banter about all things Linux/FOSS/etc. Definitely some talk about mdadm..which I'm sure will digress into a weird demo...
