Hi all, Newbie question ..... I'm running Red Hat 7.1 at work on my laptop and the IP address is assigned via DHCP. If I want to change my hostname from "localhost.localdomain" to whatever I please, how do I do it? Be gentle ... Matthew

Installfest Time!

Hey Everybody, As the Subject implies, it's Installfest time. I'm thinking of holding it the 9th of February, I'd like some input on if this is too early, etc... I'd also like other peoples input on stuff such as... 1. What distributions people should bring... 2. Possibly having a mini key signing party 3. Quake/Unreal/Castle Wolfenstein/tetrinet tournament. 4. Have some demonstrations going (such as transgaming running the sims/diablo2) Basically if you've got some idea that might improve the installfest, fire me an email! I'd also like some input from Andy about the possibility of using WLUG money to purchase something good for the raffle. I'm seeing if I can get us a big / better room for all this. Tim.

sound module?

I got a new (old) machine, and I'm having problems getting the sound card working. The machine is a DELL Optiplex GX1, and the sound card is built into the mother board. I can't see anything on the motherboard that tells me what kind of sound card is there. I can't even find anything about the motherboard other than it's Dell. There are messages in my system log: Dec 15 22:21:31 newguy modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-slot-0 Dec 15 22:21:31 newguy modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-service-0-0 I get these messages at boot and whenever I put a music CD in the drive. Any ideas? TIA, Bill

help: printing to MS98 server

I thought I had success (well, I had some) setting up printing to my W98 printer. What I find is that I can print a postscript file to the printer just fine -- at least the first page. But, I can't get more than the first page to go. Here's my commands. The first is for a postscript file, and the second uses nenscript so that I can print a text file. cat mail.ps | gs -dNOPAUSE -q -sDEVICE=bjc600 -sOutputFile=- - | smbclient //bertha/CANON -c 'print -' nenscript -B -p - < mail.txt | gs -dNOPAUSE -q -sDEVICE=bjc600 -sOutputFile=- - | smbclient //bertha/CANON -c 'print -' I think I'm doing something wrong with the gs command, but I don't see what. Hi Gerrald, I don't know the answer directly, as I don't run RedHat on my systems at home. I'm forwarding this to the WLUG mailing list, as somebody there probably knows the answer. WLUG: Any thoughts on how to configure a laptop running RedHat 7.1 for access to the Charter Pipeline cable modem? Is there anything special with Charter Pipeline vs. any other cable modem?
