Hey Everybody!
We've got a meeting tonight!!
Location: Hudson Public Library
Time: 7pm
Topic: Intel Pocket PC running RetroArch, etc.
I was given four of these tiny pocket pc's. I'm going to run RetroArch on
one and see what we get. I also think they'd be cool as a plex driver for a
TV as well.
Beyond that, there's a lot going on in the linux world, from the Intel pay
for features stuff to the Nvidia opening up ( a tiny bit ).
We should also talk about where we'd like to host meetings. I reached out
to Frank and it looks like WPI is back on the table. Would that work better
for people?
See ya there!
Tim.

Hey Everybody,
I've got a schedule conflict for June 9th. I'm moving the meeting off a
week to the 16th.
We've got a Signal group going if you want to stop in and nerd out.
https://signal.group/#CjQKIB4V_icJ7j26US0jRIAZoQtCbNXPk5LAm9qSyKGOhiEBEhBbD…
Josh also created a quick topic suggestion box for meeting ideas:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeRO4YZLTmeYlzOXO7T7Fr8aQB4JfCRqhs…
You need to sign in to google to use it.. I think it's worth talking to
Chuck about modifying the website to have a suggestions box added.. who
knows.. all ideas welcome.
Thanks,
Tim.

Hey Everybody!
Sorry for the late meeting reminder!
Yes, we do have a meeting tomorrow at the Hudson Public Library!
Time: 7PM
I'm hoping to be there in person, but I may have to attend virtually.
I'm floundering a bit on a topic at the moment, if someone has an idea,
please let me know.
Next month I'd like to get Dick to talk to about the photo editing software.
Zori has also expressed an interest in talking about TrueNAS. TrueNAS Scale
is also an interesting product as well. So this meeting might be an open
topic meeting.
Thanks,
Tim.

Last week marked the release of Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
<https://ubuntu.com/blog/ubuntu-22-04-lts-released>, and so far it looks
like some noteworthy improvements over the last LTS, notably Wayland being
enabled for Intel/AMD users by default!
There is no Wayland enablement for Nvidia users in 22.04 LTS though, and
Pulseaudio is still the default audio server instead of the more modern
pipewire+wireplumber that's been appearing in other distributions. It also
appears that Firefox in 22.04 LTS is now installed as a snap at the request
of Mozilla, and it drops the deb package from the official repo.
Also interesting is that Ubuntu will continue to avoid supporting flatpak
in favor of snap, as explained by Mark Shuttleworth:
https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2022/04/ubuntu-wont-support-flatpak-anytime-soon
*>I can say right now Flatpak’s wouldn’t work for us. I don’t think they
have the security story and I also don’t think they have the ability to
deliver the same integrity of execution over time that Snaps have ‘cos we
built those things into Snaps*
>*I like the fact that people have a diversity of opinions on ways to solve
the problem […] but I also think we’re going to deliver a far better
experience to developers and to users if we concentrate our efforts around
something we really can move forward.*
I respectfully disagree with Shuttlesworth's appraisal, because it seems to
contradict the overall experience I've seen from open source projects that
have a tendency to package flatpaks and appimages which in turn tend to be
well-supported across many distributions.
While I understand that it's very easy to set up flatpak in Ubuntu
<https://flatpak.org/setup/Ubuntu> these days, I'm still disappointed that
this is the stance Ubuntu is taking because I feel that this doesn't quite
align with the interests of the Linux community at large who're trying to
improve the desktop experience.
I worry that the distribution that got me into Linux years ago will
increase fragmentation as time goes on if it continues to focus on its
walled garden approach. What do you think?
- Josh
I just shutdown a linux machine with 3169 days of uptime!
It had userland processes that have been actively running since 2013!

Hey Everybody,
This is the final reminder we've got a meeting tonight at 7pm!
The speaker is going to be Dick Miller!
He's going to be talking about Fotoxx!
Fotoxx is an open source professional grade photo editing and collection
manager!
I hope to see you at the Hudson Public Library or online in our Jitsi Room!
Later,
Tim.

What do people of the crazy atlassian outage?
They're talking about some customers still being offline for two weeks!
