It works fine for websites that are written in a certain way (mobile.palm.com, for example). Our WLUG website comes up with the WLUG graphical header but no useful text info. I'm wondering if it would be hard to format (at least the home page of) the website to display cleanly on a PDA (320x480 or 320x320) as well as a normal computer screen. Does anybody have the expertise and time to give this a try? If its a huge effort, it is probably not worth it, but I don't have the expertise to size up the effort. Thanks! Which C++ Development Environment to use

I'm new to the Linux world and I'm looking for free C++ devleopment environments that run on Windoze and Linux Right now I'm using Eclipse with the CDT toolset - what other IDEs should I look at? Thanks, David Glaser

kernel driver vs module

I am still having a hard time understanding kernel drivers vs module's in practical use: I understand a kernel driver, is a driver that Linus, et al, have coded into the kernel, so if i have a peice of hardware, and I compile a kernel with that device's driver turned on, then my device will work. If i build that kernel driver as a module, the driver remains outside the kernel, but still availible for use. As a module I can rmmod or insmod when i need to use the device. My foggy'ness comes from a few things. 1. if the driver is built into the kernel, will it show up in lsmod? 2. if the driver does not show up in lsmod, how do i know if its loaded? 3. weather it's a built in driver or a module, how do i associate the driver (or module) with a particular device? 4. if the device does not have a driver in the kernel, I cannot build a custom kernel to include it, nor can I build it as a module from the kernel source. So: 5. if I get the driver from the vendor, it will build a module for me, based on my kernel-source or kernel-headers??? Then what? again, see #3: how do i associate the module with my device? This is a general linux quandry, but this time i have a debian stable install and have inserted a QLogic HBA. lsmod does show qla2xxx, but it doesn't seem to be functioning as it isn't logging into the fiber switch. thanks mike

CD drawer remains open

Hi All, I have a system where the cd drive insists on keeping the drawer open. I will close the drawer manually by pushing the button that closes it. Within seconds the door will open again. What would cause this? Thanks

looking for an old amd cpu

greetings! I burnt out an amd CPU (my own fault of course...we all know how wonderful AMD chips are!)and am looking for a cheap replacement. I had a few ideas kicking in the back of my head for a meeting topic. By no means am I volunteering to give a talk on this, however I thought it would be a good idea to toss out. </end-disclaimer> How about a talk on port forwarding? The talk could include tunneling via program (like the old school datapipe proggy) and more appropriately the finner points of SSH port forwarding. Other peripheral topics could be including such as: port knocking, alt mechanisms of ssh authentication, and X11 forwarding. Just a thought... Cheers, Mike

The tutor is for my son. I have managed to keep our two computers up to date -- am now running Ubuntu 6.04. I want to teach more to my son, but am getting beyond my abilities. I have some administrative work ... I need to share resources, find some drivers ... then move onto setting up an email server. From there I have some applications I want to start setting up, like a video editor and ham radio apps. Thanks for the links, they are new to me. SoC's with USB host

To follow up on discussion about USB capabilities, I took a quick look at which platforms support USB host (so you can plug webcams, etc. *into* it), $ cd linux-2.6.16 $ find . | grep ohci ... ./drivers/usb/host/ohci-s3c2410.c [ Samsung ARM 920T ] ./drivers/usb/host/ohci-sa1111.c [ StrongARM(SA1110) companion Chip ] ./drivers/usb/host/ohci-lh7a404.c [ Sharp ARM920T ] ./drivers/usb/host/ohci-ppc-soc.c [ Various PowerPC (Freescale) ] ./drivers/usb/host/ohci-au1xxx.c [ AMD (formerly Alchemy) MIPS Au1000 ] ./drivers/usb/host/ohci-pxa27x.c [ XScale ARM (successor to SA1110] ... Those modules are thin hardware-specific glue around the main ohci/usb kernel code. I think the gumstix is a pxa25x, and only the 27x supports USB host. Development boards for a lot of these are priced rather high for the typical hobbyist budget, from a few hundred $$ on up, http://www.embeddedplanet.com/products/sbc.asp http://dkc3.digikey.com/PDF/T062/0378.pdf http://www.hitechglobal.com/boards/ARM920T.htm It looks like Gumstix and routerboard are the cheapest available products in this class. Problem with usermod

Hi All, I'm running ubuntu (brezzy), and I just shot myself in the foot.... I went to add my username to a new group, but forgot to include the other groups that I belong to in the command. The command I used was 'sudo usermod -G <new-group> <my-username>'. Now I only belong to <new-group>. That removed my username from the other groups I belonged to, including the admin group. Is there a way undo what I did? I do have a copy of /etc/group before the change. Thanks, -Chuck

I know I can do it with ip tables, and I know that they will still be able to set a static ip, but I need to do it this way.
