My head hurts! Can anyone help? :-) I'm googling like crazy but for the life of me can not find any information on the values of the usage flags displayed in GnuPG when you --edit-key and list. For example (from a website): pub 4096R/7C11053D created: 2009-10-12 expires: never usage: SC trust: ultimate validity: ultimate sub 4096R/55D59203 created: 2009-10-12 expires: never usage: E Maybe it's obvious but does anyone know the value of "SC" and "E". And, how about the value of all potential flags? My problem involves other flags. I assumed I could find this in 30 seconds. No go. I can't find anything about key details. Ok, ill use my android for this one. Nix based I'm sure you know. Anyway my newest projects include an openbsd firewall. Either a free or open bsd server for private and a few friends use. My dell laptop is a joke and my debian box is stable for once having troubles with *pythonwx-2.8 and its related packages so playonlinux is not installable till I at least solve the problem. I have a 19" or so CRT you can have. It has VGA. If you can come pick it up, you can have it. I live near WPI. As a followup to a discussion we had after the WLUG meeting, here are some good pages to read about how FiOS works. Verizon is using Passive Optical Networking, either BPON or GPON depending on the CO. The downstream side is shared, since by its very nature a PON's downstream direction is broadcast on a single wavelength--the light goes from the OLT to every customer's ONT on the PON "tree". For privacy each customer's downstream traffic is "encrypted" so only the intended ONT/customer can decrypt it. The upstream side is shared via TDMA since only one customer's ONT can trasmit at a time on the single upstream wavelength "up the tree" towards to root of the PON where the OLT lives...each ONT gets a "time slot" for upstream transmissions. writing at 1GB/s ?

WLUG'ers, At work, i might be getting a piece of instrumentation in my lab that that is capable of out putting out 1GB of data per second. In the past i was pretty pleased to write 60MB/s under real-world conditions on my linux systems a few years back. I just wanted to ping the group about this. Does anyone know if a hard drive or even memory come close to writing data at this speed on a linux system? Or, what might the limit for data rates on a linux PC these days. From my google'ing it appears hard drives top out at around 100MB/s. Note: This piece of instrumentation has onboard memory for writing, which i'll probably have to use, but if there was a way to stream the data, it would be preferable. Thanks, -- brad

Im from sturbridge i already emailed two people concerning socializing im from sturbridge mass. Worcesters not to far unfamiliar with framingham. Hi WLUG So here is the info for anyone else who had my problem connecting to Verizon for the first time. (I write this for the archives) The Westell 6100G modem default IP admin and password: 192.168.1.1 admin password To access the internet and set up your account you have to go to: http://192.168.1.1/verizon/redirect.htm "Hidden Redirect Page" You click the disable button, and then your on the internet. The tech support guy then insisted on helping me set up my Verizon email. Not necessary, but I didn't want to hang up on the guy. Oh, and does the WLUG go out for beer anytime? (as in non-meeting socializing?) Ted

Gateway Solo 2000, model 9100 http://people.usd.edu/~djennewe/solo9100.html P150 MMX 192MB of RAM 2 GB HD Composite video in/out Audio in/out CDROM (needs some fiddling to keep shut) 3.5 inch floppy drive 2x USB 1.1 PS/2 ~13.3 inch XGA screen (I think) CHIPS 65554 graphics PCMCIA slot for network etc Some case damage to the hinge area, but it still opens and closes correctly. HSI Vent Maybe Help?

Hi! I am new to the area, and a long time Linux user (not uber geek, just user). I signed up for Verizon HSI. I finally got service yesterday, I rushed hope plugged in my equipment, and called up to tell them their "start-up" CD won't work. I wanted to know how to work around that. I worked through the menu, and entered non-Windows, Non-Mac OS X operating system. I was actually excited to find out that I had that option! When I got through, I explained my problem, and after he asked me to spell "Debian" I knew I was in trouble. After putting me on hold, he told me that he had to check his notes, and gave me a number, and told me to call it, because I have a Mac. I explained to him that I don't have a Mac, and then he said to call the number. I called, and it was the number for Linksys customer support. I called back, and fortunately got through to someone who knew that Linux was an operating system. He said they don't support linux, but then helped me anyway. Ultimately, they found out my line is broken and a tech will be coming. Why would Verizon give me false hope that they support non-PC and non-Mac operating system? Is there a more linux-friendly HSI provider in Worcester? Thanks for hearing me out, Ted

I guess I was lucky. Verizon did not offer DSL in my area so I went with Charter. Of course, I am not running Linux at home, so I cannot attest to how the service would be. How about borrowing a friend's MS laptop and getting the connection to work? Then switch to using your Linux machine. Chuck, Your other choice would be Charter, which is the cable company.
