Our speaker will be WLUG member Tim Keller, and the topic will be Pygame. The meeting room is near the former Access Grid room. If you walk into the main entrance to Morgan Hall, and turn right toward the dining hall, you will see a door on your right just before the dining hall. Enter that door and there will be a short hallway. We will be in the room on the right. This is the same place where we met last month. I'll try to remember to put up a penguin poster to guide you. Afterwards, we'll go out for pizza and more great conversation, as is our tradition. Any and all are welcome to attend. Hey Gang, I'll be unable to make it to the meeting tonight, however I still plan on doing a talk next month on "pygame". What's "pygame" you ask?!? "pygame" is a set of python libraries that wrap SDL written in C and assembler. These libraries take the nitty gritty out of writing games with python, or as they put it "we take the pure out of game development". I'm going to talk about the libraries in depth (with slides), show off a silly game I've written and then dive into the code of the game so you can see how absurdity easy it is to use. Obviously my talk is going to be python centric, but no worries. I'm using this as an excuse to teach myself python so it'll be educational to the python guru and the python neophyte alike. I am the ACM president at WPI and on October 2nd we are having an Installfest starting at 7pm in Fuller Labs. I am in the process of getting some speakers from various linux distros and O'Reilly for a panel discussion/Q&A session and afterwords we will have an installfest in one of the labs. Scanner - $10

Hi Everybody, My wife is cleaning stuff out and she wants me do something with a scanner that I specifically bought for it's Linux compatability. It's an Epson 1200U: http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?oid=14568 It works out of the box with my Ubuntu 9.04 Desktop via libusb, so I don't know if it will work with BSDs or other F/OSS operating systems, but I think it would. There are drivers for Windows and OS X on Epson's website, but I don't know if it works for those, I bought it so that it worked with Linux for a reason... It's not new, but I feel that it's worth it for Linux compatibility. It used to be white, but after years of oxidation and the plastic getting older, it's now yellowed. IPv6 config question

Hiya! I've got an old laptop (Sony Vaio PCG-F520) that I've been setting to re-purposing. To this end, I've installed Fedora 10 on it. I've got DNS (IPv4) and DHCP configured on it, and it will eventually be acting as a printserver for an HP LaserJet 4MP. :) My question is this: How difficult (or involved) would it be to add IPv6 support to this? I know about AAAA records, but I'm not so sure what the reverse lookup file would look like. Likewise, I'm not sure about how DHCP would be configured, if I have to touch it at all. Guys, I'm trying to ressurect an old MSI K8T NEO mother board with an Athlon64 3000 CPU. Unfortunately, I don't have any 184 Pin PC3200/DDR400, PC2700/DDR333, PC2100/ DDR266 or PC1600/DDR200 unbuffered DIMM boards. Probably 512Mb each (I've got three slots), though bigger is always better, right? I'd be willing to travel in the worcester area tomorrow to do a pickup, or hit a store with some if anyone has any suggestions other than the guys in Northboro on Rt 20. Thanks, John

I recently started a business and i was wondering if anyone would be interested in purchasing some computers for 339.99 + tax each they each come with a 17" LCD, Wireless keyboard and mouse, speakers, dvd burner, 1gb of ddr2, a 320gb hdd, AMD Sempron LE-1100 and ubuntu linux pre-installed. Add 1gb of ddr2 for $10.00 making the total 349.99 (I really need to move these boxes. Im attempting to become a linux oem) thanks in advance, and sorry for the spam :P

Remote access with DansGuardian / FireHOL / TinyProxy

looking for PHP 5.2.x help

Guys, I'm looking for some help with PHP5.2.x hacking on a web site to cleanup how the user submitted search form is handled. Basically I want to make it simple for the end user to a) refine their query, b) not have to answer popups if they hit the reload button, and c) so I can leanr more PHP. I found this nice reference: http://us2.php.net/manual/en/language.variables.external.php which has two sections by "wayne" and "Jonas Lindel" talking about how you can take the results of a PHP POST request, stuff the vars into your session, and redirect back to the same page without the POST vars set, then complete the query. The idea is so that when people hit the "back" or "reload" buttons, they don't keep getting asked whether they want to resubmit their data. It's not strictly needed, but it would be a nice cleanup of the interface. Here's the snippet I'm trying to use, which bombs out with: Fatal error: Cannot re-assign $this in .... on line 45 And the code I'm using is: <? // We want to put the search query into a session so we can restore it // easily when users goto look at full_holdings.php and then return to // the overall display page. We'll need to do a session_destroy in // index.php I think. John et al, I think I have a real problem.. Neither OS uses /etc/X11/xorg.conf as one would expect. I think there is a book available entitled "Computing in the Middle Ages". Could it be????? getting rid of some monitors

I apologize in advance for spamming the list with my want ad. I need to get rid of some CRT monitors and am wondering if anyone on the list would be interested. They are as follows... 1x Gateway Vivitron (circa '95) 17" 1x Compaq MV940 19" 2x Digital re-branded Trinitron 21" (matched pair) The 19" and 21" monitors can each run at 1600x1200 and the 21s have dual input, which is nice. I used the 21s in a TwinView setup on my main Ubuntu-based workstation at home for years until I got a LCD last Christmas. I have power/video cables for all of them, so they are ready to roll. I had them up on craigslist to try and sell them, but haven't gotten any hits and it's just time to clear out the space. The catch is that you would need to come pick them up from me in Uxbridge. The issue with 60 Hz and the LCD was not flicker. I mentioned visual defects. I meant things like missing pixels. I had to use the analog connection because that was all that was available on the PC that I had just bought. I just looked at the setting now to see if I had really chosen 120 Hz which is still a harmonic of 60Hz. Unfortunately for looking at the setting, I moved three years ago from the house where the office had fluorescent lights. When I set up my computer again in the new house, I must have somehow gone back to the default 60 Hz. There are no fluorescent lights around and there are none of the visual defects I saw in the other house. When I brought my unit back to Fry's electronics they had no such problem in the store from the ceiling lights which were a good 15 or more feet away. They gave me a replacement anyway just to keep me happy. I had not even suspected fluorescent lights at that point. When I got the replacement home, it had the same problem as the first one. I was about to give up on Samsung in disgust when I asked around at work if anybody could figure out the problem. Our computer hardware support person mentioned the fluorescent light idea. I went home, changed the frequency and the problems disappeared. The fluorescent lights in my home office were probably only 4 feet from the LCD. The cause of the problem might have been something completely different, but I cannot come up with another explanation that fits the observations. Maybe I had sympathetic 60 Hz fluctuations from my neighbor's ham radio. I have not been making the meetings. That does not mean my SUN ULTRA1 running Aurora Linux can no longer create 'interesting' problems. This time the second SUN ULTRA running Gentoo is in cahoots. I have a new SAMSUNG SyncMaster flat screen monitor. I have attached this monitor via a Belkin SUN adapter to my ULTRA1's. It does not work!! The monitor flashes a little square window saying something about "Not optimum mode". It feels that it has not been configured correctly. The buttons on the right of the monitor, which are there to set it up, also do not work with the SUN's is attached. The monitor works fine with PC type machinery. The Belkin worked fine with a regular old tube monitor. (I have not dug out the old monitor to check whether it still works. I suspect it does.) Anybody have any ideas? I have a Samsung SyncMaster 204B, but it is on a Windows PC. As for the frequency, 60 Hz is not good in close proximity to fluorescent lights.
