I don't know about win98, but on 2000, when you "Map Network Drive" there's a hyperlink (yes, hyperlink... Don't ask me why it wouldn't be a button, or even better a checkbox with a slightly different program flow ... But enough of my rant about MS bad UI design) that says "Connect using a different username". If you hit that, you can specify a username when connecting. I've also noticed if I connect to \\server\hughesm (my home directory) it will ask for my username & password, I log into windows as MarcH, and then if I connect to any other share on that server it uses that name, but it only asks me for a username for my home directory... Well, about my problem in upgrading my remote server with the latest version of openssl, apache and other its need to avoid getting the error.... Just wanna tell u this, you might be need it, if not... just ignore it.... ;p Well, at the first time, before removing the available openssl, you might have to enable the TELNET CONNECTION first. It's better to completely remove the available openssl first, but remember to ENABLE THE TELNET CONNECTION first. After removing the old openssl, you can not make any other SSH connection to your remote machine. You have got to do this fast, do not let the TELNET CONNECTION enable for a long time period. Get the latest openssl in www.openssl.com, and follow the instruction. Dont be affraid of libcrypto.* proble. Just configured the openssl installation with shared (./configure --prefix=/YOUR_OPENSSL_DIR_TARGET --openssldir=/YOUR_OPENSSL_DIR_TARGET shared) That's the main idean that I would like to say, shared. It's automatically created the latest file of libcrypto.* and other its need. Simple, make the duplicate of the needed file and create a link from a defined .so as .so asked. Then, you can simply close the TELNET CONNECTION (using chkconfig --level 3 telnet off - Redhat) and re-enabling the ssh connection by typing /etc/rc.d/init.d/sshd restart) Good Luck...... ;p

Hi, I've removed my ssl rpm before, now I'm installing the latest version of ssl (openssl - openssl-0.9.6g.tar.gz ). Everythin' goes okay, no error found.... THat something i confused just about getting this message when i'm trying to start up the sshd. sshd: error while loading shared libraries: libcrypto.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory In fact, how can i get the source of libcrypto.so.2, how can i make a link to this ? the source ? THanks.

HI Everybody, I have reserved the HIggins Labs discovery classroom (HL218?) for our upcoming install fest! This is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 24, which is the night which was scheduled for our next WLUG meeting. I thought that the first week of B term would work out well for the WPI undergraduates. In place of the meeting, we'll have the install fest from 6:30 - 9:30 PM (yes, the time is earlier for this occasion). I will update the website shortly. If you know people who are interested in having us help them with a Linux installation, please ask them to send me an e-mail so I can keep track. We can probably accomodate folks who want us to configure something but I'd like to give priority to installations. Voyeurs are most welcome to watch and learn! Would somebody from WPILA please post this information on some appropriate WPI newsgroups, bulletin boards, and the like? I'd like to give priority to WPI students and allow "outsiders" if we have enough space. Remember, we have another install fest in February which is open to everybody. I have a compaq EN pII350, I had one 40gb Maxtor hard drive installed and suse was running fine then I added a second 40gb Western Digital hard drive. Both of them run at 7500rpm. There are a couple of things that seam out of wack. Firest when i install only the WD as the master the computer only gives me the bios screne and nothing else. But when I have the SD set as slave adn the Maxtor as teh master it seams to detec both drives. then i go through the whold Suse install. It dects both HD drives and therwe sizes properly. After it installs and configures everyting it starts the system is fine. The problem arizes the first tiem you stry to restart the system. All it does is go through the BIOS and nest it trys to start the system but all it displays is "li". OpenSSL!

Can i get my latest version of openssl and install it to my remote server without loosing any connection to my server ? Ups, what have I done ? I 'v lost my connection to my remote server cause i have removed openssl on it :( Now, i can not connect to my remote server, it means i have to spend so much money to the technical service :( Can you all please give me any suggestion in order of this case not happens again.. ? I can install gentoo or slackware. Procmail setup

Hi, I'm trying to configure SpamAssassin to run on my RH7.0 server. Procmail was installed with the inital setup. I've added the following line to my .forward file: "|IFS=' ' && exec /etc/smrsh/procmail -f- || exit 75 #test" I've also tried: "|IFS=' ' && exec /usr/bin/procmail -f- || exit 75 #test" The user I'm trying this out on is "test". There is a .procmailrc file in /home/test/ just like what's described in the SpamAssassin INSTALL file. I've added a sym link for procmail in /etc/smrsh to /usr/bin/procmail. My sendmail.mc file has the following line: FEATURE(`smrsh',`/usr/sbin/smrsh')dnl When I send mail to test, it bounces back with this error: ----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors ----- "|IFS=' ' && exec /etc/smrsh/procmail -f- || exit 75 #test" (reason: 550 Unsafe for mailing to programs) (expanded from: <test(a)fiero.net>) I've scoured the net for info on setting this up properly and have tried everything that's been suggested. I'm at a loss what else is causing this problem. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks! jim

star office fonts

When I upgraded to RedHat 7.2, Star Office seemed to lose most of its fonts. (I can't remember if I installed the new Star Office from the distro, but I think I did.) I've skimmed some web documents on adding fonts, and they seem fairly complex and I don't want to spend that much time on this. Does anyone know an easy way of getting decent fonts back? TIA, Bill

MTA for laptop?

Hey, guys. Got a flame war question for y'all, I guess. What's a good (or the best?) MTA to have on my laptop. Here's what I'd like to be able to do: - Queue outgoing mail while offline, send while online (automatically, if possible... like, "Hey there's a network connection! I'll send all my queued mail!") - Automatically figure out the right way to send stuff based on the current network config. (If I'm at my office, it should use my local office SMTP server... at home, my cable provider.) - Bonus points if it attempts to deliver directly to hosts that will accept it, before falling back to my provider's SMTP. - Extra bonus points if it remembers what hosts won't accept mail directly from me and uses my provider's SMTP for those messages by default. I probably have other demands, but that's all I can think of for now. Maybe like if I'm on a dial up link, it would send small mail first? Stuff like that. Any ideas? -Chuck

Charter Pipeline Networking

I was wondering what I am doing wrong? I have 2 PC's one with Win98 and one with WinME (I know they both suck... but beyond that). When Charter came they installed their software and modem to only one PC, (The other hadn't arrived yet). Now I am trying to network the two together, I have a HUB, and eithernet cards, and cables, is there some other piece of hardware I am missing? Or do I need some software support. In my area for charter to do anything it's 75 bucks a half hour to come out... all they left me with was a modem, and one small cord? Do I need software, or maybe just some configuration advice? Practical replacements for Project.

I recently purchased the codeweavers office suite and I'm really happy with it. Stat office did everything I needed except for two apps, Outlook and Project. Outlook works perfectly under it (as you can see) but I haven't found a suitable replacement for project. Does anybody have any suitable work arounds or solutions to getting it to work with project. (I've attempted an install but get stone walled with errors and have logged a ticket) Thanks, Tim.

usb question

Hi all. MY usb ports used to work under linux in my HP notebook, it would hot-plug and everything. Now, it detects the devices I plug in, tries to register them, and then they disappear. I can acutally watch this with usb view. Any ideas what might be causing this? Wes

Well, when i run xf86config, and select the card it tells me that it is unsupported.
