Virtual Hosting

Hello All: I am experiencing a weird problem with Name based virtual hosting with apache. I don't know if I am doing this correctly. The webserver is behind a firewall that is NATing traffic to it. I have three domain names, example: domain1.com, domain2.com, and domain3.com. I have the registrar of the domains forwarded to my external ip (24.31.xx.xx). The webserver's ip is 192.168.2.50. This is what the http.conf file looks like: NameVirtualHost 192.168.2.50 <VirtualHost 192.168.2.50> ServerName www.domain1.com ServerAdmin wilsan816(a)yahoo.com DocumentRoot /home/domain1/www </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost 192.168.2.50> ServerName www.domain2.com ServerAdmin wilsan816(a)yahoo.com DocumentRoot /home/domain2/www </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost 192.168.2.50> ServerName www.domain3.com ServerAdmin wilsan816(a)yahoo.com DocumentRoot /home/domain3/www </VirtualHost> Somehow the virtual hosting is not working. When I type www.domain2.com or www.domain3.com on the browser I get the content or pages of domain1.com. I don't know why is doing that. When I type www.domain1.com, obviously works. Now, the address bar changes from www.domainx.com to 24.31.xx.xx/index.php. The registrar where the domains are registered doesn't offer free "Domain Masking" (when the domain name stays on the browser' address bar). I don't know if this is why I am having this problem. If anyone have experienced this before please let me know. Howdy, y'all. I'm just inches away from using my wikkid new Fujitsu notebook as a DVD player. After solving the seemingly difficult problems of playing a movie in the first place (xine), playing an encrypted DVD (libdvdcss), getting hardware scaling to work on my ATI (gatos), and enabling the S-video output (atitvout), I'm left with the final daunting challenge: Turning off the #!$@ screen saver! I've tried the following (in this order): setterm -blank 0 setterm -powersave off setterm -powerdown 0 xset s off xset s noblank xset -dpms apm -i (a long shot, which is not compiled in my version) Still my video goes out every 5 minutes. WTF? I don't who or what is turning off my screen, and for what motive. But their treachery must be stopped! Surely someone on this list has the knowledge I need to restore justice. SCSI Enclosures...

Hi All, I have several subdomain where each is put on the diffrent directory and it has one index.html for each. The thing that I want is, the visitor can only access my html file, so if they want to connect to another page where the location is the same, it must be a password asked for this. My point is, can I defined *.* as protected files where the index.html, fly.jpg are not inlcluded in *.* definition. iPAQ update

OK, I had a great time at the meeting on Wednesday, just let me say that first off. The great thing about linux is community, and WLUG certainly has that.... Now, at this moment I'm listening to a Nickel Creek .ogg on my iPAQ using Opie's media play w/ libvorbis. It's a little unstable, but once I get a decent flash card I'll finally be able to take my music files with me.... It took a while to get to this point. I disliked wiki before, now I positively HATE it (and I think Linux Magazine is on drugs for liking it so much). Stuff is just, missing - like how to make sure your iPAQ has dns entries by copying one file.....arrrgh! I could ssh in right away, and on usb, that was the easy part; but for some reason iptables weren't working at first and I had to wipe them and start over, now I've got dns AND iptables forwarding my packets, and the ipaq is on the internet (no, I'm not writing this e-mail on it, an iPAQ, no keyboard, remember?). The only problems I have are with the todolist (it won't start), and qtopia desktop (it won't link). The todolist is missing a library, which I'll find, but the syncing issue is a pain, it just won't see it. Brad's been great and he think going up to opie unstable may solve the issue, we'll see (don't you just love debian users? They say, "Go use unstable" as if that's just what people do...). Now, when I get a tape-player or mp3 input in a car stereo I can finally ask for that microdrive for Christmas! Thanks again! Wes

Hi gang, I'm looking forward to the 15th of January so I can finally say good-bye to Brother Bill on my iPAQ. I got a couple of questions..... Has anyone used the perl-script that syncs the ipaq and evolution? Other then the notorious, "Don't run this while Evolution is open" are there any other problems? Which CF wireless nics work with linux on the iPAQ. I'm seriously thinking that I'm going to get the cf-plus expansion pack and a wireless nic for my iPAQ (linux's true strength is networking, right?). So which one's work? And, sadly, how easy is it to reverse the process? On the off-chance that I can't stand OPIE as a working environment. I've read the howto, how hard is it in "real life." It might be fun to invite some of the people from the compaq lab to the meeting if anyone who worked on ipaq linux is based in the Worcester area.... SCSI question.

I know there are some SCSI guru's on this list. One of my out of warranty drives died. (bad sectors) I'm replacing it. The old drive was SCSI-2 Wide(80pin). The SCSI interface listed in /proc/pci is: SCSI storage controller: Adaptec AHA-2940U/UW/D / AIC-7881U (rev 1). Will a Ultra160 80pin drive work? I'm pretty sure it does, just looking for verification. Anyone know for sure? REMINDER: WLUG meeting 15-jan-03

HI everybody, This is a reminder about the upcoming WLUG meeting to be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2003 in Kinnicutt Hall on the WPI campus in Worcester, MA. At this meeting, we'll be discussing Linux on handheld devices. Mostly, this meeting will be about actually running Linux on things like the iPAQ, but if anybody is interested, I"ll have my Palm IIIx and jpilot available for a quick demo (more like Linux *with* handhelds). I think Brad and Wes will be bringing iPAQs. Who else is planning on bringing something? I had heard a rumor that somebody in the group had an XBOX running Linux, and if so, that's fair game since it will fit in my hands. :-) Please respond to this e-mail if you are bringing something for this meeting. Well, If you've got a "winmodem" check a few places like http://www.linmodems.org/ also, google is your friend in this case. If you've got an internal hardware modem, it's been my experience that in order for it to work at all, the port/IRQ settings in your bios have to exactly match the ones postulated in the setserial documentation... /dev/ttys0 (COM1), port 0x3f8, irq 4 /dev/ttys1 (COM2), port 0x2f8, irq 3 /dev/ttys2 (COM3), port 0x3e8, irq 4 /dev/ttys3 (COM4), port 0x2e8, irq 3 As for the broadband, do you have an external broadband modem connected to your machine via ethernet or an onboard broadband adapter? (I'm going on the premise that you've got the former... if you don't you'll have to look around for drivers that'll support the onboard broadband adapter) For your ethernet not working, I'd first check to see that the card was recognized. The best place to start is to see if the drivers been loaded. executing the "lsmod" command (as root) will give you a listing of all the loaded drivers... [root@medusa proc]# lsmod Module Size Used by Not tainted nls_iso8859-1 3488 0 (autoclean) 3c59x 28520 1 ... (this listing could be quite long) You should see something like the 3c59x (if you've got a 3com card) Also, you might want to check the Suse hardware errata to make sure that your cards totally supported. In this day an age, only rather exotic hardware isn't fully supported... Another place to look is /proc/interrupt aka "cat /proc/interrupt" (once again as root) this will give you a listing of all the devices linux sees on the machine. If you don't see your ethernet card listed, you probably have some sort of conflict. I hope this helps... Suse Linux: Internet access

I recently installed Suse Linux on my Pentium III, 600 mHz computer that had Windows XP installed previously. Linux seems to work OK, except that I can't access my cable modem or dial-up modem from it. If I want to go to the internet, I have to go via windows. I got this machine from my son-in-law, and it has never printed in either windows or Linux. I have "properly" installed my deskjet 932 printer, it looks to be installed ok, but when I try to print, the printer never gets the data that the computer supposedly sends to it. Any help I can get from you folks would be greatly appreciated. Hi Andy, I was hoping that by adding a second nic card that plugs into my router I could somehow configure the webserver to use one nic and the vpn to use the other without the 2 cards knowing about each other. From some of the responses I have gotten it appears that this was naive thinking on my part. I have gotten both vpn's coexisting nicely with each other. I can now connect to my desktop at work via vnc. It looks like I can now remove my windows partition...YEA! Now for my final issue. I have not been able to configure my cisco vpn to allow me access to my local lan when connected the vpn is running. This is proving to be most inconvenient because I do have a web server running that is accessable to the outside world. Unfortunately the webserver is unavailable when the vpn is activated. I am thinking that if I add a second nic card to the box and configure it properly that I should be able to have one card handle the webserver traffic and the other card will handle the vpn traffic. Thanx everyone for the advice on Linux for the PPC. I ended up going with Debian, and, guided by the advice of the installation docs that come with their dist. for PPC, I had a very successful (lacking sound, but i was told to expect that, besides it's a server) installation on the G4 Mac. Now, the only other tweak I have a burning desire to make to this box is to configure the kernel to use SMP for the dual 500Mhz processors. From what I've heard, it should only be using the first one right now, and that I have to rebuild the kernel with SMP support. Sound right? Hi gang, Well, with the 0% financianing out there I'm seriously considering dumping my current notebook and taking all my Christmas cash to get a machine that works better with linux. I'm sick of this HP buggy BIOS that won't let linux read the thermal or battery data, even with acpi, so this'll go back to winXP for my wife, we'll dump the desktop completely, and I'll get the new machine. My question is, what's known to work with Linux. Are Toshiba's friendly? I'm not touching a compaq with a 10 foot pole, and does anyone have an HP laptop that is fully functional with linux? What about the latest Dells? Or even, gasp GATEWAY???? I checked out linux on laptops, but most of the models weren't even close so I figured I'd ask all of you... Wes
