Okay, glad to know that somebody will love the puppy & all. So email me later in the week with some kind of expected ETA here. Yep - don't intend to resell it. Just sounds like a fun project to fixup, and I could certainly use the monitor (though perhaps not for school...). Zero dollars. I just know these can be fixed and I want it to go to a good home, to someone who needs it. To someone whose family needs it, or to a youngster the person knows, who needs it for school. Not for fixit-then-resale. These are still running in the $90-100 range on the bigger online retailers. You would need a soldering iron, and to open it up, find which capacitors are bad (usually they look kind of distorted or bulging), and then purchase and replace these. This one lasted several years --I think about 3 years longer than its twin, which I gave away several years ago after its capacitors blew. If you want it, I would appreciate it if you aren't planning to Ebay it or whatever, but use it personally or else give it to a youngester who needs it for school. I am conveniently located near Elm Park in Worcester, not far from WPI. Liz J

I have another dead monitor to give away. This is the Acer S220HQL, that was notorious several years ago for blowing bad capacitors. This is a 21.5" flatscreen, matte finish screen (not shiny-glarey), with both DVI and VGA inputs. This was working rock-solid until Friday night when it was sleeping, flashed for a second, and then black-screened. Crisp, sharp display always. Hey Gang, We've got a meeting tomorrow! My good friend Nick is going to deep dive on encryption! Location: Fuller Labs Rm 311 Time: 7pm The speaker for this meeting is my good friend Dr. Nick Howgrave-Graham. He's a cryptographer who has experience in both the making and breaking of encryption systems. This will be a general talk about some commonly used encryption systems, the math around them and how some of these systems have been broken through poor design. If there are some specific encryption algorithm / system that you'd like to deep dive, email the list, I'll let Nick know and possibly he can focus on that. As usual snacks and refreshments will be provided and afterwards we'll head off for a bite to eat.
