HI everyone,
This is a friendly reminder: the next WLUG meeting will be held on Wednesday,
March 14th at 7 PM in Kinnicutt Hall at WPI in Worcester, MA. Directions can be
found on the WLUG website:
http://www.wlug.org
WLUG members Doug Waud, Stephen Daukas, and Chuck Anderson have been working
together on the presentation for this meeting (at least that's the story I've
been given). They will be discussing their experiences with home networking.
Check out the WLUG website for a more detailed description of the focus of their
talk. I expect that this will be a good meeting for someone who might not have
setup a home network but is considering it.
After the presentation, if time allows, we'll open the floor for a general
question and answer session.
At the conclusion of the meeting, a group of us will head over to the Boynton
Restaurant for some pizza and beer.
As always, the meeting and the post-meeting festivities are open to anybody who
is interested in Linux. No secret handshake is required. :-)
See ya later,
Andy

Hi all,
Because most XML books and websites force the you to recite Microsoft
incantations, I wrote an all Open Source XML programming tutorial using Linux
and Xerces-Java from Apache Software Foundation. It thoroughly covers coding
of DOM, SAX, and DTD's.

Hi,
I am having a problem setting the date/time on my Linux box.
I set it using date 030310152001 for 3/3/2001 10:15. Everyting seems fine
until I reboot the box. At that time it changes to some other time. I
checked my CMOS and the time is correct. What am I doing wrong?
thanx for your help.

I'm about to take the plunge and get hooked up to Charter Cable for
internet access. Does anyone have any experience/recommendations for
cable modems? Is it better to buy my own, and from where?
TIA,
Bill
I was very successful last time in mailing this list when I was looking for
a UNIX (Solaris) admin [about a year ago I sent a similar message in which
Adam responded and has been working at UMASS since].
I am now again looking to fill a UNIX admin position at UMASS Medical School
(in Worcester). If you know anyone and or you are interested please email
me your resume and I will forward it to the powers to be.
Thanks
And sorry for the spam :)

Hmmm. Perhaps they have a proxy in-line and the proxy is having trouble.

Hi all,
I have a problem accessing the Internet. On precisely every other attempt, I
get failures.
For example, every other unique URL I click in Netscape gives me the following
error:
A network error occurred while Netscape was receiving data.
(Network error: connection reset by peer)
Try connecting again.
I suspect that my network provider's DNS server is having problems. Since I'm a
DHCP client of AT&T Broadband, I tried removing all but one of the nameserver
lines in the /etc/resolv.conf file to see if one of them was flaky. After
trying all 3 provided nameservers uniquely, either this isn't the problem, or
they're all flaky.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Andy
