I've played with Mambo (openmambo.org) and openeffect. There is a website that has a bunch of CMSs up with admin passwords so you can play around (the CMS sites go back to default every 15 minutes). I don't have a spare machine at this exact moment to install anything on (but this will change VERY soon... ;) ), but I poked around. There are three DVDs in a tri-fold paper-board carrying case. DVD 1A says it has the following (screen printed on the disc): -- SUSE(r) LINUX Enterprise Server 8 -- Nterprise Linux Services 1.0 -- GroupWise 6.5.1 -- Red Carpet Enterprise Server 2.02 -- ConsoleOne -- Linux Resources DVD 1B says it's got: -- SUSE LINUX Professional 8.2 -- Ximian Desktop 2 DVD 1C says it has: -- SUSE LINUX Professional 9.1 The README file on disc 1A specifically states that Ximian Desktop 2 needs to have SUSE Professional 8.2 installed, NOT 9.1, so that's why 8.2 is there. Disc 1C is bootable, assuming that your system is rigged to deal with that. ;) Other than that, each DVD has .iso files, which the user would burn to CDs (or mount locally, depending on what you're out to accomplish). I think I'll try to "sacrifice" my FC1 system to play with this... :D Although the package said that the contents were time-sensitive material (and each disc says that it is an Evaluation Software DVD-ROM), there was no indication in the README file of when anything (like the licenses) would expire. Firewire/USB2.0 external case

I am also in the market for a nice external hd case. But i have a few specs for mine. I need it to be able to cary very large drives 250gb>. It needs to be alandium, becuase that way it will last a lot longer and I will not be in fear of it cracking under my brutil use. Firewire/USB2.0 case recommendations?

Folks, Anyone know of a good FireWire and/or USB 2.0 external Hard Drive case? It's got to have a builtin powersupply and be durable. Any suggestions appreciated. John

Hot Swap Drives on a Inspiron 9100

I just got a nice new Inspiron 9100 for work (a huge beast I might add) and I just installed Fedora Core 2 on it. I'm curious if anyone has any links or experience in how to make it so I can hot swap the drives (dvd burner, cd-rom, floppy, extra battery) without having to reboot. I've done some googling searching but haven't really found anything yet. If you could reply back to hainesca(a)nv.doe.gov (my work email), I'd be much appreciative. External Harddrive Cases and Such

I've read in howtos and in the kernel that you need to enable SCSI to access external USB 2.0/Firewire harddrives, and I assume that the Maxtor OneTouch will go off without a hitch. Right now you can get a 300 GB one off newegg for roughly $270, which is only about $20 more than the internal one. I was thinking of setting up a cron job to backup certain files to the external harddrive. Right now I have a RAID 5 system set up but think this is overkill; additionally, an external harddrive makes sharing between computers that aren't on a network much easier and is mobile to go with my laptop (setting up my laptop to play oggs through my car stereo is something I plan on doing, and instead of backing up my music collection on the laptop I could simply do it on the external harddrive and get a power inteverter to power it via the cigarette lighter plug). Additionally, I can just do striping over my harddrives instead of RAID 5'ing them and increase the preformance (why not? hehe). I was thinking about doing the external harddrive case deal but for backup at least this doesn't seem like a good alternative, since the external harddrive is only $20 more and the external harddrive case is much more than that. In less you plan on buying four or more harddrives to swap into the case, its not really cost effective. As for the long run, an external harddrive case isn't viable anywho, since a couple years from now its going to be nothing compared to the new ones, plus external harddrive technology will advance and speed up tremendously; look at Firewire 800 right now, already out, and one sees that 'investing' in an external harddrive case just doesn't pay out. Just my $.02.
