Date/Time: Oct 13th 2022, 7PM-??PM Physical Location: WPI Mid Century Room (rm 321) Virtual Location: https://meet.jit.si/WlugMA Speaker: Dick Miller Dick Miller is going to be speaking about Fotoxx! https://kornelix.net/fotoxx/fotoxx.html From the webpage: Navigate a large image collection using a thumbnail browser, click on an image to view or edit. A rich set of edit and retouch functions is available. Import RAW files and edit with deep color. Save revised images as JPEG, PNG (8/16 bits/color), or TIFF (8/16). Select an object or area within an image (freehand draw, follow edges, flood matching tones...), apply edit functions, copy and paste, resize, blend, warp, etc. without using layers. Edit functions have fast feedback using the full image or selected zoom-in area. Edit image metadata (tags, geotags, dates, ratings, captions...). Search images using any combination of metadata and file and folder names or partial names. Click a marker on a scalable world map to view all photos from that location. Batch functions are available to rename, add/revise metadata, copy/move, resize, convert format. Fotoxx uses your image files wherever they are and maintains a separate index for fast searching. Fotoxx is standards compliant and can be used with other photo programs (no lock-in). Fotoxx is easy to use but unconventional, so read the user guide (at least the first few pages) before jumping in. Fotoxx has deep functionality. Do not expect to master it in a few minutes. Along with the presentation, as usual expect the usual amount of banter about all things Linux/FOSS/etc. Snacks and Refreshments will be provided and we'll head off to have dinner afterwards to continue the conversation. Hey Gang! We've got a meeting tomorrow! Time: 7pm Date: Sept. 8th 2022 Physical Location: WPI Mid Century Room Virtual Location: https://meet.jit.si/WlugMA Topic: I've got a couple of ideas! I saw a project to create an FOSS bluetooth speaker using a Pi 4! I've also seen people using pi's to create spotify streamers as well. This is of interest to me as my sonos gear is getting older, I'd like some open options. Beyond that I just know there will be interesting things people want to talk about, there always is! In other news in Oct. Dick Miller will be speaking at WLUG! I'd like to start thinking about what we'd like to talk about in Nov. Hey Everybody, We've got a meeting on Thursday August 11th 2022 Topic: Infrastructure as Code website with free hosting. Physical Location: Possibly the Mid-Century Room at WPI! Virtual Location: https://meet.jit.si/WlugMA Speaker: Althea Shaheen The days of websites simply being static pages of HTML are behind us. As the web changes and the technologies underpinning complex websites grow and evolve, managing all this by hand becomes nearly impossible. Load balancers, database servers.. Now what if this website also needs to be scaled across cloud providers and on prem? What happens when your favorite cloud company whose data center is just a bunch of shipping containers burns to the ground? How easily could you reconstitute your website and all the underpinnings? Althea is going to speak to how they deploy their website and manages the entire process as code. I'd like to thank Chuck for facilitating getting Althea in contact with us. If you know people who'd like to speak, please let me know. Yes, it's quite possible we'll be able to meet in our old haunt. When I know more, you'll know more! Simple IP KVM

Has anyone used or built one of these? https://github.com/pikvm/pikvm/ It looks really interesting way to get a reasonably cheap IP KVM for home use. Though with the pain of getting RPi4s these days... it's going to take me a while to actually build one. Not sure if I wnat to spend $160 for the HAT though... the slightly flaky USB dongle so I can see my home server screen when needed it's probably more than enough. John
