I've evaluated the performance of several vendors' products, ranging from the poor to the exemplary. I can talk about the modifications made in the block layer to accommodate for these devices, and the current implementation of the block discard support (which maps to ATA TRIM, which is important for device lognevity and performance) and how that is wired up to file systems such as ext4. vmbuilder - Ubuntu Lucid?

Hi, Anyone else using vmbuilder with Ubuntu's 10.x Lucid Lynx (Alpha3, I know) and cursing the change in options that just happened recently? I've been playing around building VMs (based on Karmic) and tossing them away since it was so quick. Now that I've upgrade to a newer version of Lucid, it's all busted. Sigh... This would be a good talk too, about building and using VMs. Here's the script I whipped up to help automate things, which is now busted. Sigh... I realize I need to just look in the docs, but they a) suck and b) aren't easily found. Nor is any list of changes in the options listed nicely either. Grrr!!!! How do I change the UUID on an NTFS partition?

I've done this before but I can't remember how. Gparted (actually ntfsclone) duplicates the UUID, so I cannot mount them both!

Background: We're a two year-old startup located in Worcester that produces a high-performance, bidirectional messaging infrastructure that encompasses voice, SMS, email, IM, social networking, and more. Current customers include a number of restaurant chains, sports venues, and state agencies. The positions are full-time with health benefits. Pay has some flexibility, but geared towards entry level and recent grads. Web developer: PHP, Ajax, SQL (Oracle), XML, Linux (of course). Additional responsibility/salary is available for partial system operations support. Customer support/application specialist: Customer-facing, non-programmer, will become an expert in our applications. Responsible for initial setup and configuration of new customers in our applications and troubleshooting. Additional roles as they appear. [OT]Seeing SCSI devices in Solaris

Hi All, This may a bit [OT], but ... At work we have several Sparc servers running Solaris 10u8 that are connected to storage arrays via fiber cables and switches. Some of these hosts can have thousands of connections and can take hours to boot! Does anyone know a way to view the scsi connections in Solaris? In RedHat, I can do a cat /proc/scsi/scsi and see the connections. How can I do this in Solaris? devfsadm doesn't seem to give me what I want, and Google doesn't provide too much help. TIA, -Chuck

Upcoming meetting reminder

We have a meeting coming up on Thursday, February 11th in that meeting room next to the Morgan Hall dining center. It is very close to the former Access Grid room where we used to meet. If anybody is interested in leading the discussion or giving a presentation, please let me know, or just bring it to the meeting. If I know in advance, I'll announce it on the website - this often attracts more people to the meeting. Our last meeting was rather lightly attended, perhaps because I didn't get the reminder out in enough time. I pulled together a talk about how I used libHaru to generate PDF output from a program that I wrote. I could bring in another program (Perl script) that I wrote to get data out of a ham radio related piece of test gear. It is the very first native Linux program in the world to talk to this device. I know because I asked for (and received!!!) a previously unpublished specification from the vendor. Sweet! I will be releasing this program under the GPL v3 shortly. I'm looking forward to seeing lots of people at the next meeting. Of course, we'll go out after the meeting for pizza and socializing.
