Samba Server and its connection with Windows 98.

Hi all, Well, may be somebody of you need this information, if not u can ignore it... ;p Well, samba server and its connection to Windows 9* basicly only need this configuration done. It works fine with me here, RedHat 7.2 and its default application ( Including Samba ) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When u install and configuring samba, u must be defining this main several configuration bellow..... 1. Defining the network address to be allowed accessing the Samba Server. 2. Defining the WORKGROUP name. Simply, use the same network address with unique host address in order to estabilsh the connection. for ex :192.168.24.X, u can use this network address and define the -X as host ip. So, by this u got to make the sama workgroup among your server and your client ( Windows 98 ) Please make sure that the user who wants to use the samba server are listed in your server. Instantly, there is a simple registry modification in Windows family, here I'll tell you in case of WINDOWS 98. After finishing the ethernet card, there must be a logon box to be diplayed before you use your windows 98. Here, at the folder defined bellow, create EnablePlainTextPassword and fill 1 as the value. Details : Regedit My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\VNETSUP\EnablePlainTextPassword (DWORD value =1) Restart your windows, then in logon box, enter your Linux|Unix users with its password. U will get your defined shared folder which Linux|Unix define it to shared, Have a nice day..... For more detail, please feel free to ask me about.... Talking to BBC World ClickOnline at his home in Silicon Valley, the inventor of the Linux operating system admitted that he has never been in the same room with his arch-rival. "We have been at the same conferences but never in the same room. I wouldn't know what to say to him," he told ClickOnline. Mr Torvalds enjoys the notoriety he has achieved as the man that challenged the Microsoft empire with his open source alternative operating system. *Rising to the challenge "In a way it is fun. I'm pleased to be a poster boy. It gives me some self-importance," he said. He would not, however, want to become personally involved in the dispute with Microsoft. "I've tried to stay out of the Microsoft debate. If you start doing things because you hate others and want to screw them over the end result is bad," he said. The main reason he developed Linux in the first place had as much to do with wanting a challenge as being fed up with an operating system that would not do what he wanted it to. Like most technology projects it ran way over the time allotted to it and, to this day, is not truly finished. "It was a lot harder than I expected. I thought, like most of my projects, it would talk half a year and then I'd lose interest," he said. To the relief of his legion of followers he did persevere and eleven years on is still working on it. Reluctance to change While Linux is gradually gaining ground on Microsoft it might well not be suitable for everyone, Mr Torvalds admitted. "Most people don't want to change. They may hate Windows but they run it despite that because, quite frankly, they don't care about computers," he said. And even those that do care, often install Linux without much idea of what they want it to do, he said. Mr Torvalds is not convinced that the open source movement, which has radically altered both the operating system landscape and the mindset of Microsoft itself, will ever entirely topple the Gates empire. "I think, in the end, Linux will be a big part of why it happens but Microsoft is not going to shrink into nothingness in the foreseeable future," he said. Instead it is more likely that Microsoft will become like IBM - "still huge but not the dominant force anymore", he said. The world of coding is beginning to lose importance as Mr Torvalds, ubergeek, admits he has finally found a balance between work and play. *Uber-geek grows up "I have a life too. I have kids now. Linux has been a big part of my life but now I want to have my own time," he told ClickOnline. He revealed that he is more likely to have childrens' parties with bouncy castle and candyfloss than to have a bunch of programmers round. "Part of doing Linux was that I had to communicate a lot more instead of just being a geek in front of a computer. "It has made me more used to talking to people. I still like coding but I have other things to do," he said. Although his followers would dispute it, Mr Torvalds is not convinced the phenomenon of Linux has made him entirely cool. "No-one has ever called me a cool dude. Hi gang, I've tracked down my usb problem. It appears that both my acpi and usb controllers are competing for irq 9; what I need to do is set my irq for usb to 11 and then it should work. How do I switch irq values?? Wes

Hi all! I keep getting this annoying message from Mozilla 1.0 about a Download Plugin Download abvailable from Netscape. This happens almost everytime I go to a webpage to unsubscribe from some of the junk mail I get. I have tried looking for a Download Plugin Download at both Mozilla and Netscape, but have come up empty handed. Anyone know of such a thing? Thanks! Steve

Earlier this week I installed a minimalist configuration of RH 8.0 on my old Thinkpad 365XD (P133/40MB/6GB). The configuration works fine except for being slow due to lack of processor and memory (40 MB RAM is max'd). The only snag I ran into was a hang on install just before the first RPM installs. The machine locked up there twice during the text install. I found this lockup only happened to me doing a "custom" install and not the "workstation" install. RH 8.0 does seem improved over RH 7.X in terms of the quality of fonts and GUI mods. I also found more things I could quickly disable features to make life bearable on this old hardware (wallpaper,menu icons,etc). Unfortunately, I have not tried other distributions yet and cannot intelligently compare them to RH 7.X or 8.0. My next step is to find a very small window manager to hopefully make this machine perform reasonably in X. Currently I am considering replacing the default Gnome with either IceWM and Enlightenment. I'm looking at some software I have to build at work, and I'm trying to work with RedHat 8.0, even though I don't have it yet. I'm curious about a particulare "binary" package: kernel-source-2.4.18-14.i386.rpm and similarly: glibc-kernheaders-2.4-7.20.i386.rpm These are clearly source files. How do they compare with: kernel-2.4.18-14.src.rpm ???? In particular, I'd like to try building my package (targeting 8.0) on my 7.2 box. (Maybe that's unrealistic. It's a fibre HBA driver module.) At any rate, why the mixup with the "sources"? And, why would header files be non-relocatable on the install? (At least the kernel headers are with 7.2. TIA, Bill

You should be able to specify with options in the conf.modules or modules.conf when the module loads which IRQ to use.
