Flowchart software
by Chuck Haines July 17, 2004

July 17, 2004

Does anyone know of any decent flow chart software for linux besides Dia or Kivio. Kivio is nice, however it's inability to export to a png or to be copy and pasted into star office makes it useless for me. Dia just doesn't cut it. Anyone know of anything? Encrypted USB pen drive
by Chuck Haines July 15, 2004

July 15, 2004

Has anyone configured an encrypted usb pen drive under linux? I'm not talking about encrypting single files, but being able to mount the pen drive as an encrypted device? I've look at loop-aes, but I'm curious is anyone has done this before and might give some pointers. [OT] Introduction
by Brian Waite July 15, 2004

July 15, 2004

Hi all. I wanted to quickly introduce myself. I just recently subscribed to the list and wanted to do a bit more than lurk. I hope to make a LUG meeting in the near future also. I don't want to waste too much bandwidth so I'll keep this short. If anyone is going up to the Ottawa Linux Symposium this month, maybe we can catch up and make some introductions, for everyone else, I look forward to meeting you all the LUG meeting. As I side note, I read the archives and wanted to second the idea for a "distro debate" LUG meeting. I think that would be really interesting to see what everyone runs and why. Thanks for the time Brian Waite

Hi everybody, Novell is offering a free Linux Technical Resource kit to WLUG members (and other LUGs, I'm sure). To get it, you'll need to go to their website and answer a bunch of questions. Here is the information, in case you are interested. If anybody gets one of these, I'd be curious to know what they think of it. ===== "Novell Customer Communities is pleased to offer members of the Worcester Users Group the free Linux Technical Resource Kit. With its acquisition of SuSE and Ximian, Novell has committed itself to the Linux market in a very substantial way. Open Source CMS?
by Dwight A. Ernest July 12, 2004

July 12, 2004

Hi. I have a consulting client that is a non-profit in the midst of an IT management change. They have been seeking a good content management system for some time, but have not been seriously considering open source solutions for that need in spite of my cajoling them into that direction, in spite of the fact that the majority of their current web solution is built on Linux/Apache/PHP/MySQL/etc. The main objection has been a lack of knowledge of any providers of a full-service CMS solution: sizing, integration, training, implementation, etc., which is something one can pretty much take for granted when dealing with proprietary CMSes. So what I'm seeking are pointers to open source content management integrators (either houses or experienced individual consultants) who can show a proven, referenceable list of happy clients for whom they've provided a full-service CMS solution. I look forward to hearing from you. -- Dwight A. RE: [Wlug] Open Source CMS?
by Martin, Eric July 12, 2004

I've played with Mambo (openmambo.org) and openeffect. There is a website that has a bunch of CMSs up with admin passwords so you can play around (the CMS sites go back to default every 15 minutes). Can't remember what the site is, but when I find it I'll post it to the list. -----Original Message----- From: Charles R. This topic comes up from time to time. Has anyone played with any CMS stuff? I think it would make a great talk at an upcoming WLUG meeting, even just to answer the basic questions, What is a CMS? Why do I need/want one? _______________________________________________ Wlug mailing list Wlug(a)mail.wlug.org http://mail.wlug.org/mailman/listinfo/wlug

RE: [Wlug] Linux Technical Resource Kit from Novell
by Minkov, Ross July 7, 2004

Hi, I just signed up for the WLUG mailing list. Can someone send me the link to request a Linux Technical Resource Kit from Novell? I assume it's free? Thanks, Ross -----Original Message----- From: wlug-bounces(a)mail.wlug.org [mailto:wlug-bounces@mail.wlug.org] On Behalf Of Bill Smith Sent: Wednesday, July 07, 2004 5:01 PM To: Worcester Linux Users Group Subject: Re: [Wlug] Linux Technical Resource Kit from Novell On Wed, 07 Jul 2004 01:58:07 -0400 Gregory Avedissian <gma2004(a)verizon.net> wrote: > I got mine in the mail today. Lemme know what it says - I won't be getting to it this week. Okay... I don't have a spare machine at this exact moment to install anything on (but this will change VERY soon... ;) ), but I poked around. There are three DVDs in a tri-fold paper-board carrying case. DVD 1A says it has the following (screen printed on the disc): -- SUSE(r) LINUX Enterprise Server 8 -- Nterprise Linux Services 1.0 -- GroupWise 6.5.1 -- Red Carpet Enterprise Server 2.02 -- ConsoleOne -- Linux Resources DVD 1B says it's got: -- SUSE LINUX Professional 8.2 -- Ximian Desktop 2 DVD 1C says it has: -- SUSE LINUX Professional 9.1 The README file on disc 1A specifically states that Ximian Desktop 2 needs to have SUSE Professional 8.2 installed, NOT 9.1, so that's why 8.2 is there. Disc 1C is bootable, assuming that your system is rigged to deal with that. ;) Other than that, each DVD has .iso files, which the user would burn to CDs (or mount locally, depending on what you're out to accomplish). I think I'll try to "sacrifice" my FC1 system to play with this... :D Although the package said that the contents were time-sensitive material (and each disc says that it is an Evaluation Software DVD-ROM), there was no indication in the README file of when anything (like the licenses) would expire. This will have to be explored further. Thanks, Andy, for bringing this to our attention!
