samba & window share names

Is there some easy way to resolve names to their windows share. I got annoyed at typing in ip addresses and wrote a quick script to use nmblookup to get the ip address and shove it into the /etc/hosts file. Unfortunately you have to code what hosts it enters. I'd rather have it automatically do it for all machines. (Note: this script isn't quite correct. It doesn't handle some error conditions right and wipes out the /etc/hosts file. If there is interest in the fixed version let me know and I'll get it.) I was at linux world and got to play with a zarus... One word: wow. Hardware wise, it's essentially an iPaq. But it adds an integrated keyboard and a SD slot. PocketPC and Linux

Hi all, I've got the 3800 iPAQ and installing linux on it is still pretty much "you will break your handheld". I've also got some windows software that keeps me locked in for now until companies release linux binaries or I can figure out how to run a palm emulator on my iPAQ when I get linux on it. Until that time, has ANYONE figured out how to hack activesync connectivity with Linux? It really ticks me off that M$ got rid of the ability to do a direct cable connection in PocketPC, while my hardware sweet and I love the responsiveness of my iPAQ, I almost wish I had gotten a palm or a clie. Any Ideas? Wes

PDA's and Linux

Hello all, I'm in the market for a decent PDA (Palm III died) and was wondering what everyone's experience has been with PDA's and synching with a Linux machine. I run Red Hat 7.1, not sure what kernel, but wanted to make sure the PDA and associated desktop software I bought would run under Linux. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks.

I'm not sure what would be considered the "top" perl modules. if you goto cpan.perl.org they've got like 3000 perl modules to choose from... If Mike or someone feels inclined to make me a tarball of the "top 50" I'd gladly put them on the cd. As it stands this is what we've got. Alsa drivers, stable and development Kernel 2.4.17 rdesktop (lets you access windows 2000 terminal services) TightVNC (client and server) + docs UltraMaster RS101 StarOffice 5.2 (6.0 isn't available anymore...) Latest build of Wine gPhoto + libusb Mplayer / Xine / libdvdcss xmame acrobat gaim Mozilla Netscape Opera XMMS + lots of plugins ogg-vorbis (RC3) Java / flash / realplayer plugins for mozilla/netscape If people think I'm missing something, our you've got a killer app you think people should have... let me know.
