I've never seen output formatted like that before. tx-ovr (overruns) is the statistic to watch out for. What does lspci -v -v say about your ethernet card? If autonegotiation is disabled on only one end of the link, you will have a duplex mismatch since the other end will fall back to half duplex. Always use autonegotiation on both ends, or on neither end. Any other errors? What does netstat -i show? I usually use tcpdump to write to a file, then copy it to my workstation and load it into ethereal there: server# tcpdump -i eth0 -s 1500 -w capture.pcap (the -s 1500 makes sure it captures the whole ethernet frames) I usually see these errors due to one of three reasons: 1. the netcard and/or driver is misconfigured (duplex, interrupt, etc.) 2. the netcard and/or driver is buggy or bad (usually seen on 3c503's :) 3. there is a TON of traffic on the network which is causing the card to not be able to keep up with the reception and transmission of all the packets. -- Charles R. weird ethernet problem...

I just moved a box from a testing network to a DMZ network and I'm getting all this weird ethernet crap... here's the error's I keep getting NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth0: transmit timed out status 7088 0c00 at 241/301 command 001c000 the commands are different along with the status codes. the box has a Intel 10/100 Pro card running at 100 full duplex. I hooked up a win2k laptop configured it to the proper ip in the DMZ and it worked fine, so I know it's not the link. Thanks, Tim.

USB Driver: Where to start?

Folks, I've got this idiot little USB camera that I got as part of a promotion. (Specifically, it's a QuickVideo weeCam USB from Alaris that I got a couple years back from Earthlink.) Near as I can figure, there are no drivers for this fool thing for Linux. IF I were to attack the problem, where should I start? I've noticed in the logs that the system sees it when it is connected and disconnected, so I suppose that's a Good Thing, but I don't know where to go from there. Sendmail

I have sendmail set up here at work, and everyone can send email fine, except when I try to send using the good old mail command.. it tells me "Can't create transcript file ./xfg4OGa2S21960: Permission denied queueup: cannot create queue temp file ./tfg4OGa2S21960, uid=500: Permission denied" I have tried doing chmod 777 on the "/var/spool/mqueue" and it still fails. However when I use pine and set my smtp server to box.domain.com ( the localhosts name ) I am able to send fine. This problem is preventing a webmail client I wrote from sending mail... Any ideas? D-Link Fast ethernet adapter

Hi all, I got mdk 7.2 installed on a Toshiba Satellite, everything works great except the networking =[ I have a D-Link Fast Ethernet PCMCIA adapter. Model no: DFE-670TXD. I can't seem to get Linuux to recognize it :( Has anyone got one of these successfully working?? If so please let me know how. Thanks

Do I need a terminator or something? I thought my configuration was right, since I can transfer hundreds of megabytes between errors. Can a problem with terminator configuration even be that subtle? (Forgive a SCSI newbie!) So, the error resolves itself in 7 seconds, and no data is lost, so maybe I don't care. ;) Really, the problem is that it muddies up the console when it happens, and I have to press ^a l. The system is a decade-old experimental dual Pentium-133 running 2.2.21 SMP, with an onboard AIC-7870 (with a BIOS that says "EVALUATION VERSION. DO NOT DISTRIBUTE.") and a 4GB Western Digital Enterprise that someone told me was dead. Heh... okay that sounds pretty bad. So, I guess only pay attention to the terminator question. ;) Thanks. -Chuck
