As Andy suggested, Anyone have ideas? Like to see something presented? Anyone done much with LDAP servers? Authentication? Network security? iptables? One thing i would like to know. I currently have an iptables FW setup with logging of all rejected packets. Something similar to LogWatch that summarizes the rejected packets would be nice. Does anybody know of or created a script that can change a users password without human intervention? or on a side note, does anybody know how to in perl hash a textual password into a MD5 hash that would be suitable to be inserted into a shadow file. Thanks, Tim.

DDS3 tape drive?

Hey guys - I've got an old backup tape from 1999 that I'd like to get the data off of. My big problem - I don't have the old system/tape drive around anymore, or personally have anything that can handle the tape. (The DDS2 tape drive I tried just spit the tape back out at me.) The tape is a DDS-3 Data Cartridge (Compressed Capacity 24 GB), an HP C5708A. I do not know how much data is on the tape (or if it's been corrupted), but I doubt that it's anywhere near the 24GB. All I really need is a data dump (to either a CD-R or such that I can FTP off to my server), and I'll poke through it later. I really can't spare the $680 (the cheapest data recovery quote I've gotten) for a possibly corrupted tape... any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated. 8) -- --==*==-- --==*==-- Michelle R. Hi Everybody, This e-mail is to remind you about the upcoming WLUG meeting which is being held on Thursday, June 13th at 7:00 PM in Kinnicutt Hall on the WPI Campus in Worcester, MA, USA. With the arrival of my new daughter two weeks ago (May 24), it has been very busy at my house. Combined with some unrestful evenings, I have not had any time to prepare a presentation for this meeting. The floor is open for anybody who has a reasonable presentation to make to the group. Please contact me to make arrangements. As you've seen in the past, the presentation need not be extremely fancy. Feedback I've received from group members indicates that these presentations are well received, and are certainly better alternatives to sitting around for an hour trying to figure out what to discuss. :-) Recent Linux developments that might be fodder for discussion are KDE 3.0.x, United Linux, aptget-rpm, Mozilla 1.0, OpenOffice.org 1.0, and probably many other things. At this meeting, we can also attempt to finalize our plans for a WLUG summer barbecue. It might be a good idea to combine this with a 5th year anniversary celebration, as WLUG was originally founded in July of 1997.
