It just completed and no bac blocks were found. I ran reiserfsck --rebuild-tree --rebuild-sb --fix-fixable and it found some bad leaf node indexes and some orphaned files. The file system seems to be intact. I have 2 disks in my system. Disk 1(hda) has windows and SuSE7.3 installed on it. Disk 2(hdb) has SuSE 8.0. When booting SuSE8.0 it mounts the partition hdb7 ("/") as readonly. This was not the case until the system was rebooted last week. Prior to the reboot I could read and write to the partition. I was out of town when I started having connectivity issues and had the wife reboot the machine. I had ownly been accessing the machine for email and file storage and don't know what has changed. When booting into SuSE 7.3 I can mount hdb7 as rw. I believe the problem has something to do with the boot process but am not sure. Reiserfsck has been run successfully and the system is still mounting / as readonly. I have found that the /boot directory is empty and it was empty before running reiserfsck. Where do I go from here? Any guidence will be greatly appreciated, Mike

I have now been able to boot the system using another drive. The original boot drive (hda7) can be mounted successfully with the following fstab configuration: /dev/hda7 /data2 reiserfs noauto,user 0 0 When reiserfsck /data2 is run I get the following messages: reiserfs_open: bread failed reading block 16 reiserfs_open: bread failed reading block 2 reiserfs_open: neither new nor old reiserfs format found on /data2 reiserfsck: --rebuild-sb may restore reiserfs super block What are the ramifications of running this? Is this something that can cause the data on the disk to be lost? Thanks for any help, Mike

Help! System booting as readonly

While away on business I lost the ability to ssh into my computer. I had my wife ping it from within the home network and she was unable to. After walking her through some ifconfig diagnostics (she is a technically challanged individual) I next had her reboot the box in the hope that it would "fix" the problem. It did not solve the problem. Now that I am home I see that it is mounting the drives as readonly. The following is a partial listing of the dmesg: kmod: failed to exec /sbin/modprobe -s -k scsi_hostadapter, errno = 2 VFS: Mounted root (reiserfs filesystem) readonly Trying to move old root to /initrd ... failed Unmounting old root clm-6006: writing inode 927 on readonly FS clm-6006: writing inode 927 on readonly FS clm-6005: writing inode 927 on readonly FS clm-6006: writing inode 927 on readonly FS clm-6006: writing inode 927 on readonly FS clm-6005: writing inode 927 on readonly FS How do I go about diagnosing and fixing this problem? REMINDER: Meeting on Wednesday, June 18th

Hi everybody, The next WLUG meeting will be on Wednesday, June 18th in a different place. This time, we're in Olin Hall room 107 (the big lecture hall on the left on the first floor of Olin Hall). More detailed directions are available on the WLUG website. The meeting time is the usual 7:00 PM. A couple of people had mentioned an interest in addressing WLUG, but I currently don't have a definite commitment for a speaker for this meeting. I would therefore llke to use this as a planning meeting to decide what activities the group would like to pursue over the next few months. Perhaps these folks would like to make a commitment for a future WLUG meeting (if so, please contact me directly). I'll bring some light refreshments. 530 TLS subsystem failed.

Hi all, I've just re-compilled all the system's need such as openssl, php and its need, etc. Here, I got a problem like this : [root@voyager named]# ftp 192.168.21.22 Connected to 192.168.21.22 (192.168.21.22). 530 TLS subsystem failed. ftp> Can you please inform me what was wrong with this ? Is it a kind of problem which caused by openssl upgrade ? How can I solve this ? In fact, I get a slow connection too when accessing local mail using browser. I can send and receive mail fast using outlook. Thanks.
