I have been using Linux for 4-5 years no so I am definatly up for the task. I haven't had much experience with setting up a Linux router/firewall, but I think my other experience will be enough. Part of doing this project is to learn more using Linux as a router. I heard about the crippled WRT54G from slashdot and few other places. According to OpenWrt's wiki version 3 of the WRT54GS has 8MB of flash and 32MBs ram. However version 4 they cut it in half. Anyway thanks for the info. Sorry, I don't know what a Linux ditro is. Yes, I am looking for a reliable vendor that offers laptops with Linux pre-installed. Any advice on the desktop program, i.e. which is better? Lindows? Red Hat? Linspire? and all the others out there? At the moment, I'm using Open Office, Thunderbird and Firefox on an old 98SE Dell Inspiron 3500, still ticking after all these years but slow. Additionally, down the road I will be researching video capture and editing suites (open source or otherwise) suitable for a Linux environment, but for now I'll be happy with the basics--an office suite, email and browsing. My bottom line is migrating from dependency on proprietary operating systems, versatility and reliability. Thanks! Marie, I constantly see http://www.emperorlinux.com/ in the Linux magazines that I frequently read, however I can't say I've ever bought one from them. Emperor offers a variety of "distros" including my favorite "Ubuntu". Their prices seem a bit high, but might make a good point of reference at the least. Being strapped for cash myself I decided to get a used laptop on Ebay and trust my luck. For just a few bills I got a Compaq Armada M700 (which I am writing this email on right now). It's processor is only a P3 @ 1GHz, but I appreciate it more and more everyday. Ubuntu Linux installed flawlessly on it and I even got a Belkin 802.11b/g wifi card working without a hitch. I can get you a refurbed Thinkpad T20 series (P3 700 - 1000) with Fedora Core 3 (for example) loaded for about $350 to $450. You request the hw/os config you need. DNS/MX Question

Hi all, I'm new at this Linux thing and have a few questions about some servers I'm setting up. We have 2 dedicated servers which we have complete control over. One server is our production server (I'll call this server 'P') used to host our online games (AllinPlay.com) the other is for development, testing, email, etc (I'll call this server 'D'). These are physically seperate machines. Here's how I'd like to set them up: * Server 'P' is only used for hosting the games. It has the FQDN "AllinPlay.com" * Server 'D' only has an IP (no FQDN). - I'd like 'D' to be accessable via a subdomain such as: devel.allinplay.com - I'd like 'D' to handle all the mail for the allinplay.com domain. Users will get the mail from 'D' via a client such as Thunderbird So my confustion comes in as to how to set the DNS/MX/A/AAA records. If anyone can shed some light on this I'd be very greatful!
