Postgres cluster

Could someone walk me through building a 3 machine postgres cluster with automatic fail over? I've searched and searched and I'm just not getting it. I currently have postgres 9.1 installed with 1 database as 9.1/main. I'd like to cluster this to provide ha and faster query times. Writes to the DB can be forced to the master only, so read-only slaves are okay (there are far more reads than writes) Can anyone help me out?

Hello, I'm writing to user groups and hackerspaces to inform your members of a very unique upcoming event -- the Vintage Computer Festival East 8.0, May 5-6, in Wall, New Jersey. If you're not familiar with the Vintage Computer Festival, then please take a moment to keep reading .... The event is run by a user group called MARCH (Mid-Atlantic Retro Computing Hobbyists) of which I'm president. Each day of the weekend-long show contains lectures/workshops (in the morning) and an exhibit hall (in the afternoon.) This year's keynote speakers include Dartmouth's Dr. Thomas Kurtz, who co-invented BASIC (on Saturday) and Apple's Daniel Kottke (Steve Jobs' college buddy, India travel companion, Apple 1 board builder in Jobs' parent's garage, and Apple II/III/Mac engineer), on Sunday. Both days, in the afternoon, is our hands-on exhibit hall. Imagine an antique car show -- the cars are nice to look at, but you can't touch anything, and you certainly can't drive. Well, that is no fun at all! Our exhibitors are required to have their systems up and running for live demos all weekend! People can see minicomputers, punch card machines, teletypes, homebrew-era computers, 8-bit micros, etc., all live and running. The venue for our event is the InfoAge Science Center, which is a grassroots, all-volunteer, non-profit facility. It contains a computer museum (run by my user group), along with museums for antique radio/TV, shipwrecks, military communications, amateur radio, etc. -- all operated by independent clubs. Best of all, our event is dirt-cheap to get in. Adult tickets are just $10 a day and $15 for the weekend. Kids are admitted for free. Proceeds benefit our museum, which is strictly educational in nature -- we're all volunteers. Embedded Linux Engineers contract openings

Our client west of Boston has a couple of openings for strong embedded Linux engineers for long-term contracts. Must be US citizen or Perm Resident, must be local Embedded Linux (RTOS) Engineers (12+ mths contracts, west of Boston) Engineers will design, develop and deliver drivers and protocols for a wireless product. Engineer must have experience with low level embedded RTOS design and development including BSP's, board bring up and collaborating with the electrical engineers. Qualifications include: o Extensive experience with embedded Linux including kernel development (other RTOS's such as VxWorks, Integrity, Nucleus, etc. may be considered) o Experience with wireless embedded devices o Experience in audio technologies o Experience developing embedded apps for small devices with processing power a consideration. o Strong C/C++ skills. Super Wifi arrives in Hanover County, NC

Just read that Hanover County, NC, is moving to the FCC's authorized use of unlicensed broadcast frequency ("white spaces"). So, maybe it's a good time to put a proposal together to get our state counties to do the same. Anyone know the technical specs that would lay out a viable solution our county commissioners can consider? Where to find a software contractor?

HI guys, I know a small businessman who is interested in potentially hiring somebody to write a piece of custom software. He is wondering where he would look to seek out contractors with the right credentials for this small project. He didn't mention too many details, but it sounds like the project will have something to do with bar code scanning, optical character recognition, and some type of graphical interface, most probably in a Windows environment. Where would you look if you were seeking a software professional on a short term contract basis? IPv6

I read the powerpoint presentation that was posted here a short while ago and found it a bit helpful. I started setting up IPv6 on my home LAN last year. I got as far as setting up my Linux server to open a tunnel through SixXS. My ISP doesn't offer IPv6 quite yet, and even if they did, my firewall doesn't support it. That's why the tunnel. What I can't do yet is use IPv6 from other systems on my LAN. From the server, I can get almost anywhere I want to go using IPv6. Using the notes from the PPT presentation, I found out that I might have only STARTED setting it up. It looks like parts that should be there aren't, but I don't want to blindly set things without fully understanding what I'm messing with. I'm not sure if I have to put an address on the ethernet interface and set up a route or what. Any thoughts on what to watch for? -- Bill Smith Fall River, MA
