Hey Everybody, We've got a meeting tomorrow! Time: 7pm Date: September 12th, 2024 Physical Location: 44 Portland St, Worcester MA Topic(s): Last month we dove into the history of Linux distros. I thought this month we might talk a bit more about some more practical linux desktop stuff. How to install software, window managers, etc. Then I thought we might dive into filesystems with a foray into LVM. Afterwards we'll head out for dinner and keep up the conversation! It's been an exciting month in the FOSS world! YubiKey clone attacks, Ubuntu upgrade breakage! Microsoft has decided it's win 11 AI recall feature can't be removable.. I suspect lots of people are going to get real interested in linux.. bcachefs drama. If someone has a topic they've like to talk to about, let me know! Hey Everybody! Date: August 8th @ 7PM Location: Techncopia, 44 Portland st. Worcester MA Virtual location: https://meet.jit.si/WlugMA We've got a meeting tomorrow! I'm planning on giving a short talk on the history of linux, how we got here, where are we going, why it matters and delve into some unix history and philosophy.. i.e. "everything is (mosly) a file.. no really.." I fully expect all the usual suspects will also have interesting tidbits to add, corrections to make and generally it should be an interesting talk to help people new to the FOSS world and in particular the linux world why we love linux and why we think it's great. As usual we'll head off for dinner afterwards and keep the conversation going! I hope to see you there! Hey Everybody! We've got a meeting and a topic idea! We've got a meeting on the 8th! During the last couple of meetings, we've had a couple of new users come by and it was clear to me that we were going into the higher level linux concepts, many of which were flying over their heads. I was thinking it might be really good to have a back to basics wlug meeting, where we get in get into unix philosophy, what a distro is, what parts make up a distro, common things people deal with, etc. Yeah, nah? I'm also trying to turn a page here and start the conversation about the meeting more than say.. 2 days before the meeting so the meetings can continue to have their ruckus nature, but actually have some bit of structure! Where do I put mount script?

I have a NAS that I am able to mount using NFS and I suspect that I can also mount as CIFS. I am currently using multicast DNS addresses in the addresses in my mount command and I do not want to use the numeric style IP addresses that seems to be required for /etc/fstab. Does anyone have suggestions where to place this mount command script? This command seems to needs root access, which may limit where the script with command will be placed.

If people have other things they want to talk about, by all means! I've continued to tinker with the LLM stuff and I'll have that laptop with me as well.
