Embedded Linux Engineers contract openings

Our client west of Boston has a couple of openings for strong embedded Linux engineers for long-term contracts. Must be US citizen or Perm Resident, must be local Embedded Linux (RTOS) Engineers (12+ mths contracts, west of Boston) Engineers will design, develop and deliver drivers and protocols for a wireless product. Engineer must have experience with low level embedded RTOS design and development including BSP's, board bring up and collaborating with the electrical engineers. Qualifications include: o Extensive experience with embedded Linux including kernel development (other RTOS's such as VxWorks, Integrity, Nucleus, etc. may be considered) o Experience with wireless embedded devices o Experience in audio technologies o Experience developing embedded apps for small devices with processing power a consideration. o Strong C/C++ skills. Assembly would be a strong plus o Experience with OOD. Super Wifi arrives in Hanover County, NC

Just read that Hanover County, NC, is moving to the FCC's authorized use of unlicensed broadcast frequency ("white spaces"). So, maybe it's a good time to put a proposal together to get our state counties to do the same. Anyone know the technical specs that would lay out a viable solution our county commissioners can consider? Where to find a software contractor?

HI guys, I know a small businessman who is interested in potentially hiring somebody to write a piece of custom software. He is wondering where he would look to seek out contractors with the right credentials for this small project. He didn't mention too many details, but it sounds like the project will have something to do with bar code scanning, optical character recognition, and some type of graphical interface, most probably in a Windows environment. Where would you look if you were seeking a software professional on a short term contract basis? IPv6

I read the powerpoint presentation that was posted here a short while ago and found it a bit helpful. I started setting up IPv6 on my home LAN last year. I got as far as setting up my Linux server to open a tunnel through SixXS. My ISP doesn't offer IPv6 quite yet, and even if they did, my firewall doesn't support it. That's why the tunnel. What I can't do yet is use IPv6 from other systems on my LAN. From the server, I can get almost anywhere I want to go using IPv6. Using the notes from the PPT presentation, I found out that I might have only STARTED setting it up. It looks like parts that should be there aren't, but I don't want to blindly set things without fully understanding what I'm messing with. I'm not sure if I have to put an address on the ethernet interface and set up a route or what. Any thoughts on what to watch for? -- Bill Smith Fall River, MA

second annual Northeast Linux Fest

Hello list Announcing the 2nd annual Northeast GNU/Linuxfest. Where: Worcester State University, Worcester MA When: March 17, 2012 Info: http://northeastlinuxfest.org Last year we had just speakers at the event. This year we are stepping it up considerably. We are featuring a hackerspace competition where teams from across the Northeast will compete for prizes for best design. This years theme is accessibility. We will also hold LPI and BSD exams on the morning of the event. The folks from Open Street Map will hold workshops throughout the day. We also have tables from various sponsors. Among the keynote speakers this year will be the other organizer for the event Jonathan Nadeau. Jonathan is blind but this has not prevented him from working with Debian, Fedora and Triquel in hopes of making each distribution more accessible for vision impaired or physically disabled. This is an event that can also be used to meet other people in the linux world and make new contacts. This is an all day event. All events will be held in the main student center. There is also a cafeteria on the second floor which features a $5 all you can eat buffet. Last but not least, if you are 21 or older we have our very popular after party event at Jillians. We also have arranged to get special room rates at the Worcester Marriott. You must reserve your room before February 17, 2012 to get this rate. You can either use the link off the Northeastlinuxfest website or you can make reservations over the phone but be sure to mention the Northeast Linuxfest group to get the rate. Monitor resolution ...

I was looking at monitors at WurstBuy and noticed that the maximum vertical resolution is 1080 lines. I then looked at the sites of the various monitor manufacturers and also noticed that almost all of their offerings has a maximum vertical resolution of 1080 lines. You could get higher resolution but the prices are through the roof. Can anyone shed some light on the trend? -David
