Hey Gang! Location: Technocopia, 44 Portland St. Worcester MA. Date: November 21st, 2024 Time: 7PM Topic: Going rogue. I know, a flashy title to draw you in! Let's be frank, the digital landscape is looking a bit bleak right now. More and more, I'm finding myself not that interested in posting anything about myself or my family because I don't need some AI algorithmically categorizing me. Even this email I'm sure is being analyzed by google.. gmail is free for a reason.. I had an idea and that was this. Would people be interested in a mastodon server running inside a tailscale mesh? Or some other service, like IRC or https://revolt.chat/ or I'm sure other people have other great ideas. My plan is to show off a pi running mastodon and/or revolt with tailscale. I'd love to hear people's thoughts about this. If people even think the tailscale stuff is needed. So that's my thought for what we might talk about. Looking for anti-virus suggestion

I've got a friend who is looking to get a new laptop running Windows for his wife. He's asked me what virus protection should he get. I have no idea what's good nowadays. I would guess Windows Defender is built is, but can anyone advise me as to if he should get something more?

Does Poxmox Virtualize H.264 encoding

I occasionally use OBS studio as a screen recorder in my main OS and my CPU is a little light for CPU encoding of video. I have been considering using Proxmox as my hypervisor in place of Virtualbox on my single desktop. Does anyone have any idea if proxmox provides virtual H.264 hardware encoder support like there is a virtual device for keyboard and mouse? From what I have been able to determine, I can not use a pass-through unless I get a second video card, and I suspect there will be other limitations. Right now, I can not get another video card due to a shortage of PCIe slots, $$ and power supply capacity .
