She likes writing Go, building Lego spaceships, and predicting how things will break.” “Does technical debt turn your small changes into minefields? Does your production environment expect perfect humans? This talk highlights tools, configuration and documentation that set us up for failure. It advocates for removing traps, so that you don’t have to waste brain cycles on remembering where they are. And it offers practical advice for sending your future self (and future coworkers!) gifts, instead of post mortems that just say “human error :-(”. Includes stories of preventable outages. Bring your schadenfreude.” We will be announcing some new great things going on later as the conference gets closer. One of the things that was brought up in the feed back from the past few years is a get together on Thursday night for those in the area or arriving early so we will be opening up the bag stuffing party to all. Yes, that's what I was doing but after I chose this the Mint installer wasn't seeing any partitions. Removed GPT record with gdisk and that fixed it. Yeah, I should know better. I was beat up and frustrated at the time. Sorry. The root of my problem was that I couldn't find any options in the BIOS to manipulate the Secure Boot/UEFI/Legacy stuff. However, I found them this morning after I selected an option that I assumed to be unrelated which unlocked them. Thank you, Gigabyte. So I'm making progress now but I'm still not out of the woods yet. I've got Windows installed with space partitioned for LM but now I'm working on getting the installer to recognize the Windows partition. It thinks I have the entire disk available. Damn. You have turned off secure boot, right? Which OS is working right now? Can you run grub manually from the UEFI prompt? Can you get to the UEFI prompt? Are you trying to install Windows second after a successful Linux install? Have you considered picking one OS, then running the other in a virtual machine? I used to build PCs for myself, family and friends as a side hobby many moons back but as it became more of a headache I fell out of it for the most part. But recently I decided to replace the PC I have had since 2007 even though it was working fine for my needs. I really wanted an SSD drive, USB 3.0 and less power consumption. So all the headaches immediately returned and I remembered why I don't like to build these any more. I was able to get the hardware issues I encountered resolved, but them I was hit with the UEFI problem when trying to install and dual-boot Windows 10 and Linux Mint. I'm finding lots of help pages but none have worked for me. Maybe because I have a newer MB (Gigabyte GA-Z170MX with an Intel I5 6400). So I wonder without burdening anyone for specific instructions, can anyone provide any general thoughts or guidelines regarding UEFI, Windows 10 and Linux? I'm thinking it might be impossible to dual-boot with my setup but I hope not. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! -- Gary
