OK, Looking at my log file from my firewall reveals that not I've got people trying to through my firewall from... 66.189.81.226 (and 246) (http connect attempts) 62.163.126.100 (same domain as yesterday) How do I track them back to the ISP's and send a message to their abuse@ address? Someone's trying to ping me from 66.189.24.226 as well. Am I being paranoid or could my isp be trying to crack my firewall to see if I've got any servers running? Time to batten down the hatches... Motherboard Monitor

are there any utilities out there that you guys know of that work with the sensors that motherboards have ? i'm looking for something that can obtain CPU temperature, fan rpm's, and all that other fun stuff ... at this point i just want something so i can read those values ... i dont need any fancy programs really ... -mike

Hi, my firewall is detecting a "netbus attack" from an external source. Anyway I can basically refuse connections? Nothing's gotten through yet, but it's a pain to see someone doing it and I'd like to smack them around a bit. Any ideas? Wes

I got to play with one of these at linux world. I saw ssh working over wireless networking on one of them... definatly linux, definatly cool. REMINDER: Upcoming WLUG meeting

HI everybody, This is a reminder about the upcoming WLUG meeting which will be held this coming Thursday, April 11th, at 7 PM in Kinnicutt Hall at the WPI campus in Worcester, MA. At this meeting, WLUG member Tim Keller will describe to us a problem he had with Linux and how he chose to modify his copy of the Linux kernel to add a new signal to solve the problem. This talk will cover some kernel internals and programming. A more detailed abstract can be found on the WLUG website. There will be a raffle as well. Addison Wesley sent me a copy of a book entitled "Embedded Linux - Hardware, Software, and Interfacing" which I'll give to the lucky raffle winner. There is no cost to be in the raffle. I'd also like to entertain a discussion regarding content for future meetings. Here are some thoughts which I had: a) bakeoff between VMware, Win4Lin, and Bochs b) KDE3 c) representative from FSF to discuss GPL and free software d) Maddog e) SuSE 8.0 Please think about this and bring your thoughts to the meeting. If you're bashful or unable to attend the meeting, send them to me via e-mail. Afterwards, we'll make our ever popular pilgrimage to the Boynton Restaurant for pizza and beer, good Linux talk, bashing of evil empires, and the like. We always have a great time so if you've never joined us after a meeting, now would be a good time to start! Linux and NTFS on XP

In Linux dual boot systems you can mount the Win98 side drive to read and write using vfat. Question, if you run Win2000 or XP with a NTFS type file system can you still access the drives from the Linux side.

RBL access

Hey, guys. I'm getting quite a lot of crap email these days, ever since ORBS/ORBL & Co. disappeared, and MAPS went to a fee-based service. (I'm really not planning to pay $200/yr for a single blackhole list.) I was never really crazy about MAPS to begin with, because they tried too hard to be "fair." ;) ORBS was hyper-aggressive, and rocked. (About 80% of my crap email was filtered by ORBS, and I had special pre-RBL filters that extracted mail from friends using bad ISP's with open relays.) Anyway, is anyone using (or know of) a freely-queriable RBL? Although it's fun to upgrade the keyword filter, it would be easier if I only had to do it for exceptions. BTW, for the curious, my daily haul of junk mail varies from 20 to 40 messages. Can anyone beat that? -Chuck
