linux handheld question

Hi all, Recently I've been thinking of picking up a linux-based handheld and I've always been interested in the agenda vr3. It seems that their phone numbers have been disconnected, but the web site still works, as does their e-mail server. Are they out of business? Did they just forget about their web site? Anyway, I've been thinking of saving up some cash and snagging one of the vr3's that show up on ebay constantly (just as a toy to have around). Has anyone used one? What do you think? Should I just save up a lot of cash and get a zarus? And can I run a palm emulator on zarus? Thanks. Wes

REMINDER: WLUG meeting Thursday, Feb. 14th

HI everybody, This e-mail is to remind you about the upcoming WLUG meeting, to be held on Thursday, February 14th, 2002, in Kinnicutt Hall on the WPI campus. This is our "normal" meeting location. At this meeting, WLUG member Marc Hughes will be presenting some information about Borland's Kylix software which runs on Linux. For more info, consult http://www.borland.com/kylix. I'll be showing the kylix development environment, touching briefly on the licensing issues with their "free" version, creating a small app, and then showing off a larger more complex application. Time permitting, I'll quickly go over some other development environments such as Kdeveloper and glade. Also at this meeting, I'll give a quick financial report and we'll talk about the results of the install fest from this past weekend. There will be a couple of items available for raffle. Refreshments will be available. After the meeting, we'll go to the Boynton Restaurant for pizza and beer. This has become quite a tradition after WLUG meetings and is a great time. (Sorry about the double-post, but I feel your pain for the html email) Under most distros you can just add it to your /etc/fstab. This file tells linux what and how to mount various file systems. I would assume it works under Suse. The fstab of the machine I'm on looks like this: /dev/rd/c0d0p3 / ext2 defaults 1 1 /dev/rd/c0d0p1 /boot ext2 defaults 1 2 /dev/rd/c0d1p6 /data ext2 defaults 1 2 /dev/rd/c0d1p2 /home ext2 defaults 1 2 /dev/rd/c0d1p5 /tmp ext2 defaults 1 2 /dev/rd/c0d1p1 /usr ext2 defaults 1 2 /dev/rd/c0d1p3 /var ext2 defaults 1 2 /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy auto noauto,owner 0 0 none /proc proc defaults 0 0 none /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=620 0 0 /dev/rd/c0d0p2 swap swap defaults 0 0 /dev/hda1 /mnt/windows vfat defaults 0 0 Which is a horrible example for a newbie question since the weird dev devices are hardware raid. But the last line is the interesting one. It tells the system to mount /dev/hda1 on /mnt/windows using the vfat file system. While I think having an ISO image for download would be a good idea, a general download area where folks can post items of interest, say from one of the WLUGs, might be a better idea. That way, if someone has items that have been discussed in either a meeting or on the mailing list, then they can put it somewhere for others to grab. Of course, there is the perennial problem of making sure this isn't used for illicit materials and/or that the site isn't swamped, but there are many ways to manage that. Most companies have an area for this sort of thing and I'll bet we could come up with a solution as well. Too bad I can't make the next meeting, but I'll bet a good discussion over pizza and beer might yield some good ideas! Regards, Steve P.S. I'm just in the process of building a new RH server machine for myself and my domains. I plan on having such a download area and would be interested in being educated as to the pros and cons of that sort of service. I had thought about putting Linux stuff in there, so maybe there is a potential fit with WLUG?

4th annual Installfest a complete success!

Hey All, The installfest was a complete success! Statistics: Total Installs: 8 Percentage successful: 100% Installs that were a no-show: ~2 (both Stratus employees, I'll be hunting them down later today...) Pizzas Ordered: 6 Percentage devoured: 100% Number of junker pc's that one installee cannibalized to make one working machine: 3 Raffle Info: Congratulations to Colin Novick and Bill Mills-Curran who both won copies of "Linux System Administration: A Users Guide." The Installers: Andy Stewart Al Butler Brian Waite Chuck Anderson David Lugwig Mani Sundaram Marc Hughes (If I've forgotten anybody, just send an addendum...) Other Stuff: Someone asked about the goodies CD's... There are a couple of things. 1. If Chuck has the space, I'd gladly upload it and he can mount it on a loopback. 2. I will cut a couple more copies (I might add some more stuff) and bring them to the meeting on Thursday. If you specify want a copy, drop me a line and I'll make you up one explicitly.
