This position just opened in our organization and I thought some people in the group would be interested. It is a customer facing, multi-fasceted role: The SiteSpect Implementation Engineer is a technical expert who is responsible for the configuration, deployment, and support of SiteSpect's core products. This is an engineering position that requires experience in Unix system management, Web applications management, load balancing, and networking/DNS. As this is also a customer-facing role, it requires the ability to communicate technical instructions to both experienced and less experienced clients. This is an ideal opportunity for system and network administrators with a history of working with both technical (IT) and non-technical (business and marketing) teams to define system requirements, plan projects, and ultimately deliver solutions. Requirements * 3+ years of Linux/Unix administration and troubleshooting. * 2+ years of experience with solutions architecture for DNS, load balancers and CDNs. * Web server configuration, tuning, and administration. * Shell scripting such as bash, perl, python, or PHP. * Experience with system monitoring tools such as nagios, sar, or sec. Responsibilities include scheduled on-call duty and occasional travel to assist customers with installations and system maintenance. Candidates should have experience working in a team environment alongside other engineers and product managers. You should be comfortable with the dynamic and fast pace that is typical for an Internet software startup. This is a full time position located in our office in downtown Boston, MA. If you walk into the main entrance to Morgan Hall, and turn right toward the dining hall, you will see a door on your right just before the dining hall. We will have developers from Gentoo, Debian and Redhat along with a couple of other activists in the Open Source community to participate in a panel discussion and Q&A session. Later in the evening we will beging the actual Installfest. Our Gentoo Rep may also being doing a short presentation on Embedded Linux, which is sure to be interesting and fun. Hey Gang, I'll be unable to make it to the meeting tonight, however I still plan on doing a talk next month on "pygame". What's "pygame" you ask?!? "pygame" is a set of python libraries that wrap SDL written in C and assembler. These libraries take the nitty gritty out of writing games with python, or as they put it "we take the pure out of game development". I'm going to talk about the libraries in depth (with slides), show off a silly game I've written and then dive into the code of the game so you can see how absurdity easy it is to use. Obviously my talk is going to be python centric, but no worries. I'm using this as an excuse to teach myself python so it'll be educational to the python guru and the python neophyte alike. Hi all, Sorry to say that I wont be able to make the meeting tonight because I have class, but I figured I would talk to you all in email so you may be able to discuss this tonight. I am the ACM president at WPI and on October 2nd we are having an Installfest starting at 7pm in Fuller Labs. I am in the process of getting some speakers from various linux distros and O'Reilly for a panel discussion/Q&A session and afterwords we will have an installfest in one of the labs. If anyone here is interesting in attending or even better interested in talking/volunteering to help with the Install that would be much appreciated.
