Toshiba e330 + Linux

I've had a Toshiba e330 for about 3 months now, however it runs windows and I can't interface it with my linux machine. I was curious if anyone had any information regarding putting linux on one of these babies. I plan to get a wireless card and GPS adaptor for it soon, so how would that affect it. Any help would be much appreciated. Anyone know off-hand what version(s) of MySQL is available with the RH9 installation? I checked out the RH website, but i didn't get any useful information. I'm looking to see if the latest MySQL release (4.x) is included... freeswan

Is anyone out there using freeswan? I'm thinking of repeating my wireless network over to my office after my move and I'm thinking of setting up freeswan to encrypt the traffic more tightly on the network when I do. The howto's I've found have been on setting up a vpn between networks, is it possible to set up freeswan to encrypt traffic on a single lan (until sdmca laws make it technically illegal to do so.....). HI Everybody, This is a reminder about the upcoming WLUG meeting, which will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2003 at 7:00 PM in Kinnicutt Hall on the WPI campus. At this meeting, WLUG member Tim Keller will discuss how he used open source software to build a Digital Video Recorder (similar in function to the commercially available TiVO device). wireless repeating...

Hi all, We're MOVING! And now I have an opportunity to learn something new... Where we're going, our house is right next to the Church, and the Church offices are 25 yards from the Church and across the street. The Church is made of stone, the office-building is made of brick. Do you think it's possible to somehow put a repeater in the Church that will extend my wireless network the "last mile" so I can have internet access in my study? If so, what would you recommend? I know I'll have to set up a VPN for all my clients so traffic is in the clear on the network, but what hardware would allow me to do this? Wes -- Wesley Allen <wallen(a)charter.net>

hi Wlug, I have a laptop gateway 450sx4 with a video card, "ATI Technologies Inc. Mobility M6", as windows displays it. I could not figure which kernel video module I should load. another question is that what will go to the Driver section of XF86Config in xfree4.3.0? slackware uses vesa as default which does not use any hardware acceleration. thanks for any help, baris

What's people's experience with gentoo? I'm thinking of upgrading one of my boxes to it in the near future. This is a box I really mess around with, so how bleeding edge can I get? Is it easy to keep some packages at stable releases, and some at unstable, or is it more of an all or nothing thing? I guess what I want is, a way of trying the newest stuff, but an easy way of going back to stable when I'm horrified with how buggy the newest stuff is. Also... for the stable releases... how secure has the distro been as a whole? Comments, horror stories, massive praise? -Marc
