Hi everyone, I 'm contemplating installing the new Sun Looking Glass 3D desktop on Fedora Core 3. Has anyone had any experience doing this? The instructions located at https://lg3d-core.dev.java.net/lg3d-getting-started.html seem pretty straight forward but I was wondering if there were any gotcha's. Likewise, does anyone know of a repository with RPM's for this to make my life easier? You can only upgrade SLES9 if you have the upgrade key from SuSE Themselves I recommend downloading SUSE 9.2 DVD or FTP install if this is only for a personal use OS ~Tom "Hi All, I just installed the SuSE SLES 9 (kernel 2.6.5-7.97). I can't get the 'YOU' utility to work. A box pops up asking for a username/password pair. I have this set up to run automatically every day at 5:00AM, but it fails with an error message "Unable to check for updates". If I run the YOU GUI by hand, a box pops up asking for authentication data (a username and password). During the installation of the O/S, it actually ran YOU successfully and downloaded some updates. I've looked at the /etc/sysconfig/onlineupdate file and I can't see anything obviously wrong. There is a password file in /var/lib/YaST2/you. I've tried using the root password, my personal password, but nothing works. What am I overlooking? desklets-daemon will not run - FIXED!

I found the answer to my problem in <http://www.fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=26681&page=4> All I needed to do was to "yum install gnome-python2-gnomevfs.i386" It took a while, but that's alright:-) Thanks everyone. Ken Jones

Unsuccessful installation of gDesklets

You've piqued my interest in gDesklets. I am trying to install it with no success. I am running Fedora Core 3. The README warns me not to attempt to compile this package, but it offers me no alternative. I downloaded, unzipped and tar'd gDesklets-0.34.2.tar.bz2. I ran the configure file. It failed for lack of pygtk-2.0. (see below) I downloaded, unzipped and tar'd pygtk-2.4.1.tar.bz2. This successfully compiled and installed. I even helped by modifying and exporting environmental PKG_CONFIG_PATH But still gDesklets did not. Fetchmail

Such a simple question yet I can't seem to find an answer. I'm trying to use fetchmail to retrieve from a POP3 account. The POP3 server includes mail in the server name (mail.domain.com) The email accounts do not include mail. Unfortunately fetchmail seems to take the supplied username and add the mail server name. So I get foobar(a)mail.domain.com instead of foobar(a)domain.com. (Or foobar@domain.com@mail.domain.com if I try to specify the server name.) Problem starting gdesklets on login

Good morning everyone, I recently installed gdesklets on FC3 and it works fine except it does not start automatically on login. I've tried saving the gnome session but the gdesklets are not captured. I've also tried automatinng the start by adding the call to my .bash_profile file but that doesn't do the trick either. Does anyone know how to overcome this issue? Intel's HyperTransport

For any of you open-source types that dabble in hardware... So some interesting news is making the rounds today. It seems Intel is developing a competing standard to the tried-n-true open-standard called Hypertransport, which they never liked because they did not create it. i686 gcc on fedora or rhel4

Does anyone know if I can get binaries so I can compile for i686 on fedora and / or rhel4. I'm trying to set up distcc, but I need i686 in order for it to work. The machines are more than compatible and I don't know what redhat hasn't finally switched over. You may find it easier to just create a symbolic link so that i686-pc-linux-gnu-gcc points to the compiler you currently have installed. A script could work too but then you have to make sure that any options used on the command line are passed through the script. A symbolic link may be easier. WPC54G and Gentoo

Does anyone here have experience with a Linksys WPC54G and Gentoo? I've installed the ndiswrappers according to the gentoo HOW-TO and installed the correct driver for the wireless card. The card is detected just fine, however when it tries to associate with an AP it always fails. I've tried setting the parameters manually with iwconfig and then running dhcpcd, however it doesn't get an IP. According to iwconfig it is seeing the AP but not pulling an IP. Any help with this would be much appreciated. I'd like to get this running. SUN/IBM Server Rentals

Hi All, The company where I work (in Worcester), is interested in renting a SUN server, with a current version of Solaris pre-installed, as well as an IBM box (pSeries or xSeries) running a current version of AIX. I have installed Suse Linux Home Edition 8.0 on my machine. Something went wrong when it installed, and it won't see my mouse. Hence, I can't navigate within it. Can anyone tell me how to uninstall it, and restore my hard drive to its original configuration, until I can install another version? I am interested in getting involved in Linux Open Source development. I am a seventy year old retiree. I started programming on the AN/FSQ7 at MIT's Lincoln Laboratory in 1957. (If you read "Computing in the Middle Ages" by Severo Ornstein, I was there.) I finished by professional work life as a Senior Software Engineer at CISCO Systems in 2003. I miss the problem solving and the camaraderie of the work place. I wonder whether I can contribute to the development of Linux. How do I start? Ken Jones
