This was done to fix some security issues where a user could e.g. reflash the firmware on your drives, rendering them toasters. There is now some SCSI command filtering done to prevent such things. Fedora has pretty much abandoned ide-scsi and has switched instead to the SG_IO API directly on the underlying ATAPI device. This allows applications to send SCSI Generic commands by using the ATAPI device instead of the SG device which required the ide-scsi hack for ATAPI devices. I know this change broke a lot of things, mainly people's expectations on which device to use with cdrecord et al. It is now as simple as: cdrecord dev=/dev/hdc or similar.

Proliant 1600 for sale

I go back and forth on this, but I have a Compaq Proliant 1600, dual 450 (or 500, i forget), with 6 18gig drives, plus an F1 full of 18gig drives, plus some spares. I can also put in a DLT drive. It runs fine, but is loud. I go back and forth with wanting to sell it 'cause I didn't think anyone would be interested. But is anyone? $600 for the whole shabang. yum repository for Aurora?

Would anyone here HAPPEN to know of any yum repositories for Aurora Linux (Sparc flavor, 1.0 is based on RH 7.3, 1.9x is based on Fedora)? I've been looking for a repository for upgrading my 1.0 installation to the latest 1.91/1.92, but I cannot find an up-to-date repository. 8( (For anyone that's curious, I'm running Aurora on my Sparc Ultra60...) Printing problems

Hi All, I am having trouble when printing big batches of documents, these are over 20 pages. Everything starts off fine, but then printing stops usually around page 18 to page 22. If I reprint the batch a different number of pages will print, but never all of them. Like I said I usually get anywhere between 18 to 22 pages. I've noticed if I restart the lpd service I can get the batch to reprint fully once. But then when the next batch prints I start having trouble again. Does anyone know if there is a spool limit with lpd? I know you are going to say use CUPS, but I don't want to mess around with my production servers if I don't have to. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanx, Don

PCI-X under Linux

I was just wondering if anyone had any success using PCI-X/PCI-Express cards under linux. I was looking through the kernel and don't see any specific settings strictly for PCI-X bus. I wonder if they *just work* with PCI support enabled, as AGP does. I'm specifically interested if anyone has got hardware 3D acceleration working with a PCI-X video card. I'm looking at getting a mid-range NVidia card, since their drivers are at least useable under linux, compared to the atrocious performance and glitches the ATI proprietary drivers have (and the open drivers being worked on are not overly worried with the card I have, and the R300 driver doesn't have any sort of 3D acceleration right now). As far as I can understand from the docs on nvidia's website, it seems like it'll just work, but was interested if anyone had any success. In particular I'm looking at the nvidia 6600gt series.
