Does anyone know of any reasons *not* to upgrade to Apache 2.x from the last Apache1 version (1.3.37)?

Andy, Eric, and Mike, Andy nailed it with "/opt/gnome/bin/gnome-wm". That got the manager back up, which, in this case was metacity, as Mike suggested. Once that was fixed I was able to continue and get xgl running so I now have the rotating cube desktop and other effects. Thank you all for the quick responses. Tux has happy feet again :-) Bruce

Window manager problem

Hi everyone, I'm running openSuSE 10.2, and decided I wanted to try some of the 3D Desktop effects. So I tried activating them through the YaST control panel. Now not only do I not have 3D effects, I seem to have lost my window manager as well. I can open apps and applets, utilities and folders, but none have a title bar to grab for moving the window, and none have the max, min, and close buttons, and if it doesn't have a close or quit option in a drop down menu, I can't close it (them). So I end up with a screen full of unmoveable, unresizeable, and in some cases, uncloseable windows. It reminds me of an old steamer trunk with decals plastered all over it. The boot screen only shows 2 icons just prior to opening the desktop: the desktop icon, and the Gnome footprint icon. The double window icon is no longer there. Booting as root is normal with all 3 icons in the splash screen, and full window(s) functionality. So this problem seems contained to my user account. I'm hopeful that restoring the window manager will also let me configure the 3D effects, but if not, I'd like to get back to normal. Any suggestions? Bruce

Hi all, I've recently acquired some more hard drives and I just plugged one in to the secondary SATA ports on my motherboard for the first time. However, my Gentoo box isn't seeing it. I have an Abit AN8-32X motherboard (the other drives are on the Nvidia SATAII controller). Comprimised servers?

Hi all, It appears as if 2 servers we have were compromised. Does anyone know of someone or a business we can get to examine our servers and tell us what to do? Our hosting company is not the easiest to deal with and I'm having trouble getting anything beyond level 1 support from them. Thank you in advance, Michael

Amarok

I picked up a Cowon iAudio U3 a few weeks ago after and exhaustive search for a player with a good amount of memory (2GB) and plays ogg and flec files. Anyway, I've been burning my CDs to ogg/vorbis as time allows to build a library for myself and recently burned my old copy of Mike Oldfield's _Amarok_. I honestly never made the connection between the name of the album and my new favorite media player, but when I started playing amarok.ogg in the Amarok player this morning this popped up: "One of Mike Oldfield's best pieces of work, Amarok, inspired the name behind the audio-player you are currently using.
