Set Date/Time

Hi, I am having a problem setting the date/time on my Linux box. I set it using date 030310152001 for 3/3/2001 10:15. Everyting seems fine until I reboot the box. At that time it changes to some other time. I checked my CMOS and the time is correct. What am I doing wrong? thanx for your help. Peter N.

Cable Modem

I'm about to take the plunge and get hooked up to Charter Cable for internet access. Does anyone have any experience/recommendations for cable modems? Is it better to buy my own, and from where? TIA, Bill

UNIX Admin position

Network problem: mine or theirs?

Hi all, I have a problem accessing the Internet. On precisely every other attempt, I get failures. For example, every other unique URL I click in Netscape gives me the following error: A network error occurred while Netscape was receiving data. (Network error: connection reset by peer) Try connecting again. I suspect that my network provider's DNS server is having problems. Since I'm a DHCP client of AT&T Broadband, I tried removing all but one of the nameserver lines in the /etc/resolv.conf file to see if one of them was flaky. After trying all 3 provided nameservers uniquely, either this isn't the problem, or they're all flaky. Any thoughts? PPPD 2.3.11 on kernel 2.4.1

I've got kernel 2.4.1 up and running and am pleased that all seems to be relatively well. My boss has an iMac at home and dials in via a ppp connection to one of my linux boxes running now 2.4.1. I've played with various ppp options and have removed just about everything from the /etc/ppp/options file. As it suggested i've done: `echo 256 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/route/min_adv_mss` to no avail! I keep suggesting (lately increasingly less subtly) that he consider a cable modem but so far he still wants to do it this way. The postings on the message board at wlug.org have the wrong year attached to them. I posted a message on 2/21/01, and the date on it is "2/21/00", instead of "2/21/01". This ought to be corrected. I hope this gets to the right person...

ssh

Hi, When i pop my mail i create a tunnel through ssh, and pop through that. Using this command "ssh -C -f me(a)pop.myserver -L 10110:pop.myserver:110 sleep 30" Well every time i create the tunnel i have to enter my password for the pop server. Is there a way to use ssh tools so i don't have to enter my password? I'm using kmail is that's relevant. Thanks, --Brad
