Howdy, This is Patrick from the Worcester Computer Co - Op, as you may or may not know we are holding an install fest on Saturday the 9th, for the purpose of installing Linux on old machines that will be donated to members of the community. This information was sent out by Andy earlier. I can send you more information if anyone needs it. The main purpose of this message is to ask who was planning on attending. Hello.. It is Micheal here.. I am useing Mandrake 10.0 and KDE 3.2 I have FireFox pr 1.0 and ThunderBird .8.. How can I make firefox see Link in ThunderBird and Visa Vera .. Internet service for newbies

This is in regards to the install fest that will be happening Saturday at the Worcester Computer Coop. These machines will be given to people with little computer experience / money. All they need for an Internet service is a very simple dial up. Has anyone tried Net zero for Lindows(linspire) and got it running under Linux? If not can someone recommend a good ISP. The cheaper the better. Thanks Patrick

Searching for meeting topic

SuSE Watcher

Hi All, I just installed SuSE Server version 9 (my first SuSE installation) and I'd like to use the "Watcher" to get updates automatically, but I can't figure out what the "autorization" window wants. I know it's looking for a username/password pair, but what username/password?? I don't recall creating one, other than the usual 'root' and various users. Is there a "special" username & password that I should've created? Thanks, Chuck

There are approximately 15-20 machines that are in need of some TLC. The machines range from 100 MHz to just over 1 GHz as far as is known. Once the machines are proven to work and Linux is installed and configured, these machines will find homes with needy families in the neighborhood surrounding the St. Bernard's Church in Worcester. The Worcester Computer Co-op has their lab located within the church building. Patrick and I agreed that a hard drive installation of Knoppix would probably be a reasonable thing to do for several reasons, a) its Debian based, b) it has *everything*, c) the live CD feature, d) its pretty easy to install, e) it pretty easily handles non-English languages. My only concern is to insure that the hard drives on these machine are at least 3-4 GB to accommodate a full Knoppix install. As a backup, I would like at least one other distribution handy in case we get an ornery machine or an undersized hard drive. It would need to have some games, KDE or Gnome, and OpenOffice, at a minimum. Clearly, this isn't a good software selection for a 100MHz machine, so that's another reason to have another distro handy. (I don't think there were more than a couple of machines which were this slow). The event will take place from noon - 4 PM. I'll update the WLUG website shortly with directions and such. I'm looking for volunteers who will be able to attend and who wish to burn a few Knoppix V3.6 CDs. Please contact me before your burn anything or we'll likely end up with way too many CDs. The room where this event will be held is a pretty good size. There will be ample opportunity for unnamed WLUG members to trip on power cords and pull them out mid-installation. :-) Many folks have asked when we'd be having our next install fest - well, this is it! Come on over, have some fun, and help some needy families bridge the digital divide. Another thing I just thought of is to check the seperation rollers. They are little blue rollers that make sure you only get one sheet at a time. They should have ridges on them (like treads on a tire) they almost look like veins. If it is relatively smooth, there's your problem. Once should do the trick. There are pickup rollers / d rollers, get a damp cloth (water) and wipe it down...process takes not even a minute. (The only rollers you have to get are the ones that pickup the paper) Also unplug printer first.
