It is with a heavy heart that I make the following announcement: After seven enjoyable and educational years, I am shutting down my last Linux computer. After taking out the parts that I need for my zippy new Athlon and donating most of the computer to my employer, I will have the following left over. DVD's to bring?

Hey All, For the DVD demo thingy, what are people going to bring for DVD's? I'll bring "Ghost in the Shell". The thing that makes this DVD so special is that for some reason the authors chose not to encrypt the disk using CSS. Its the only non encrypted DVD I've ever come across. Tim.

Network Install

I freely confess my inexperience. I have done a number of successful CDROM installs from Mandrake 6.1-7.1-7.2. I have an old box I scrounged but without a servicable CDROM drive. I want to install Linux on it, but need to do a Network Install. I am not finding detailed documentation on this and will continue to hunt. If anyone has a hint as to where to look or experience to kick me in the pants in the right direction I would be terribly grateful. Thanks Colin

phpgroupware?

Greetings, We've just set up a new mail server here where I work and we want to get phpgroupware up as a web-client. Here is my question, does anyone know of any way we can set phpgroupware to auto-sync linux users with the mysql database backend? Any info would be useful, I don't want to have to set everyone up twice. Wes

Do a home network and hack it together. The sugguestion about getting involved in help-desk work is really good too because all of the sudden you HAVE to learn all this stuff so you can help people (though you may go insane doing it, "I've got 600 messages in my "saved" box on the mail server, should I have backed these up on my local machine?"). If you've got a friend who is a system admin start talking to them as you hack your network, this will have to be a good friend who will not mind giving you advice for free that he charges other people for; but friends can put into English what man pages can only put into "networkspeak", without friends, I'd never even tried to learn linux and would still be a slave of Microsoft. Problem with X

Hi All, I have XFree36 3.x installed and can use startx to launch icewm. When I install KDE2 and run startx it crashes with the following (paraphrased) message: ksmserver: Error in loading shared library libGL.so.1 ksplash: Error in loading shared library libGL.so.1 kdeinit: Error in loading shared library libGL.so.1 knotify: Error in loading shared library libGL.so.1 grep /root/.kde2/.root_warning file not found. I tried 'startx icewm' with the same results As soon as I uninstall KDE2 startx works again. Why would startx be broken even if I am not starting KDE2. Thanks, Mike

I'm glad they've got a spreadsheet. Now...does anyone have a serial cable I can borror until I convince my wife that spending $30.00 so I can hack my iPAQ is a good idea? OR...has anyone installed familiar/qte through an usb cable, and the handhelds.org site is just wrong when it says it can't be done? embedded QT

It looks like I'm finally going to have time to go out and pick up a serial cable so I can get brother Bill off of my iPAQ. But I've got a question for anyone who has done this ahead of me: Are there any speadsheets that have either been created for familiar linux or Embedded QT? The QTpalmtop web site has got some screen shots, and one has a link to a spreadsheet, but they don't mention it and I can't find the package anywhere. Unfortuately, I've got to have a spreadsheet so I can keep track of hours and expenses and such, so I'm kinda stuck, maybe I shoulda gotten a vr3? Also, are there any utilities out there that would allow me to do irsync with palms?
