Hey Everybody, We've got a meeting this week! Date / Time: Thursday July 9th @7PM Location: Technocopia, 44 Portland St. Worcester MA. Virtual Location: https://meet.jit.si/WlugMA Topic: Rust Programming Language! Long time WLUGer Evan White will be giving a talk on the Rust programming language. Rust recently became a first class citizen in the linux kernel. Designed from the ground up to be type and memory safe it's the new cool kid on the block. Evan will be showing off what he's been doing with rust to wildly extend the functionality of the kobo e-reader. This talk will be oriented towards people who've never used rust before so he'll be getting into the brass tacks and showing us all why we should all abandon our crappy unsafe languages and go all in on rust! As usual after the meeting we'll head out for dinner and keep up the conversation. I hope to see you all there! This is all analogous to what I use successfully for my wife. To your points: 1) skip the include if you like. My wife has aliased her mail on several domains to Google so she can mail from her phone I only provide her POP not IMAP. I forward her incoming stuff (successfully) to Gmail with Procmail 2) I appreciate that everything worked for 20 years. It did here also, until the last 2 years when Google and Yahoo (who now also does mail for AOL and Verizon) started changing the rules for what they would accept. Took me months. Still issues with Yahoo. Have read they don't follow the standards. 3) You must have an "a:" section in your spf record, it is the only way to tell Google what your valid server(s) is/are. It doesn't matter what you have done with GoDaddy. LOL! I understand, it's all so complicated. So for fail2ban, I would just do: sudo apt install nftables iptables and then check the logs and see if you still get the same warning. Can you also share your configuration? for example, I have the following: $ sudo fail2ban-client status Status |- Number of jail: 1 `- Jail list: sshd which shows that I have one jail setup for 'ssh' connections. To get more details I do: $ sudo fail2ban-client status sshd Status for the jail: sshd |- Filter | |- Currently failed: 2 | |- Total failed: 276156 | `- File list: /var/log/auth.log `- Actions |- Currently banned: 2 |- Total banned: 43350 `- Banned IP list: 87.251.64.144 80.66.66.70 But if you post the output of your exact log message, I'd be happy to help. Also post your fail2ban config info as well.

I ask because with Trixie, dovecot was upgraded to v2.4.x and it's a big problem because the configuration language has been changed, and it's not as stable as the old 2.3.x version is, and some features have been pulled. So I'd be careful upgrading. New WLUG web site

Guys, I'm working on migrating the old WLUG website from the old non-https server to a new Ubuntu 24.04 LTS based system with proper HTTPs support, and using the 'grav' flatfile CMS for simpler management. Can people take a look at 'https://wlug.stoffel.org' and give me some feedback on how they like the look? Or do we really care? Cheers, John

Reminder!!! Meeting tomorrow! Topic: Macropads + Matrix + lots of other stuff!

We've got a meeting tomorrow!! Date and TIme: March 12th 2026 @ 7PM Physical Location: Techncopia, 44 Portland Ave. Worcester MA Virtual Location: https://meet.jit.si/WlugMA Topic(s): 1. I'm going to show off the macropad I bought at Microcenter running QMK and how you go about flashing it and some of its really useful features. 2. Matrix stuff! Venus was gracious enough to get a matrix chat going, the next decision is if we stick with signal, stick with matrix or do we roll our own matrix? It's clear we need to "pick a lane" otherwise we've got 11 different chats everywhere.. 3. California's AB 1043 Age verification bullshit being pushed by idiots.. I know people have feelings.. I definitely do. 4. Kernel 7.0 right over the horizon!! 5. I guess we can talk about Kent Overstreet's AI girlfriend? Rather not.. I may or may not have a funky keyboard to show off as well..we'll see. As always after the meeting we'll head out to dinner and keep talking! I hope to see you there! If so, I'd be more than happy to share how it goes..and choices to consider. pi-hole -> HeadscaleTunnel -> VPS Unbound (recursive) -> Root/AuthServers I'm nearly drowning to understand it but (insanely) committed to doing it. With an outside VPS server doing all my home-network DNS requests. Like those awesome reveal.js + isp-dns-spying.html slides from after last meeting feb2026. Currently trudging thru OTHER ways to get feet wet....... 14-landscape-pages of https://docs.pi-hole.net/guides/dns/unbound BUT experimenting first (as this guide leads to) "Unbound(Recursive)" on local pi-hole. But really aiming at VPS==unhijackable, ..cuz Spectrum already intercepts all my current outgoing port53 queries i think. -doug To really raise my middle finger quietly to Spectrum, I'm looking at $2-5-?/mo VPS options/providers like https://www.ionos.com/servers/vps ( $2=1gbRAM, 10gb NVME) ( $3 initially/mo 2 gb RAM, 80gb NVME ..discounted from $5/mo ) +more. Finally got a new pi (pi5), put Debian on it, it uses just under 10gb so the $2/mo option sounds too close for comfort. But there are SO MANY other providers to consider...should "we" worry about trusting THEM to not decipher the piece-by-piece queries a VPS Unbound would make via hosted provider? Maybe don't HAVE to trust outside provider's ISP but hmm.......
