I also bought the Motorola modem directly from Charter. It was $200 and they'll split it into 4 payments tacked on to your bill. I let the installer set it up on my W2K box and, after he left, swapped the cat5 to my Linux box. I set it up for NAT and everything worked fine. I've since bought a Linksys router so I can tear apart my Linux box without disrupting internet access for the rest of my network. There's never been any problem with Charter, though the speed is nowhere near 1.5 Mbps. UNIX Admin position

Hi all, I've isolated this problem to one machine on my home network. Other machines on my home network seem to be OK. That would put the problem in the "mine" category. :-) Now, to figure out what's going on..... It appears not to be DNS as a ping command to a variety of hosts at least returns the correct IP address. Time to do more investigation. You can set up a caching nameserver on your local machine that queries the root DNS servers fairly easily. That way you could be sure if it was their DNS servers or not (by not using theirs). Have you tried another web browser (ie lynx, opera, mozilla) to see if it's netscape?
