Long time WLUG member John Stoffel has graciously agreed to show off his new, small, but mighty desktop. We'll put it through its paces with a couple quick demos and tests. Along with his mini pc, he's also got QLC+ lighting control software and an LED instrument with RGBW Leds in it to demo and show off it being controlled by a linux system. QLC+ has slowed down in development lately, but it's an interesting alternative to QLAB when you don't have a Mac, and Qlab only runs on Macs. As usual, we'll head off for dinner afterwards to keep the conversation going. Later, Tim.

So the 28th is a Wednesday. Did you mean to say it's going on Thursday the 29th? Let's not be stupid.. Moving the meeting to the 28th.

John texted me this morning that there's a nor'easter on the way. The weather people, who are using Linux to run the large models are predicting heavy rain and winds, localized flooding, etc. I care more about the members of this group than keeping to a schedule. I think it makes sense to move the meeting to the 28th.. Stay safe everybody! Tim. -- I am leery of the allegiances of any politician who refers to their constituents as "consumers".

Can we get a talk on the web browser being developed for the new non-linux system? I totally am blanking on the name(s) right now, but we've mentioned it at the past few meetings. Which leads to another topic... keeping home directories in sync when you have laptops, home servers, remote systems, etc. How do people keep their setups consistent? I came from an era of Xterms and DEC workstations where all home and tool directories were on NFS servers, and the systems were very light on anything but enough to boot the OS. This way people could sit down at any system, login and their environment was just there. Now with everyone having laptops, I think most colleges have gone away from big computer labs any more. But keeping your files safe is tough. iCloud, OneDrive, rsync, etc have helped, but I'm not sure what the real answer is here. This could be an interesting topic! John
