If nothing else, the technocopia free shelf is a good way to see if someone wants one. Also the Westbourough Recycling Center will take them not as trash, but as resources for others. Displays for the needy

Hi Folks, I'm helping with the cleanup of a house that was owned by the deceased parents of a friend of mine. So far I have found 8 flat panel displays and at lease 40 hard drives (IDE/Parallel-ATA). I also found some all-in-one computers (display with a built in pc). Is there an organization here in the Worcester area (or environs) that can make use of them? Otherwise, I am going to trash them. Decades (199x-2010) before I found wlug/WPI/you!, I'd (rarely..road wimp, became too lazy,etc..) go to MIT/Cambridge for geek-meetings that a UNIX SysAdmin --> linux-lover might enjoy. I stopped attending their meetings decades ago, but I kept listening quietly to the "discuss" (primary email thread/list of BLU) that I think it morphed into: Boston Linux and Unix http://www.blu.org (trivia: "Announce" includes "Discuss" list, which I get in digest, so a dozen+week becomes sm handful per week. HEAR YE and cool/modern format(s): BLU Meetings, at least some like THIS WEEK's, allow you to --- ATTEND and be yourself? Also, Brandon showed me an interesting MFA token, with small buttons for a pin to allow access to the MFA token when you plug it into a USB port. But I forgot the name of it. Can someone share that with me? John

But they're *slow* to interact with. Why do you think MS finally made powershell and people love ansible and other tools like that? Because GUI work doesn't scale. If you take the time to get over the learnign curve, keyboard shortcuts are the way to productivity. And that's why I still write these emails in 'vm' on emacs in an SSH connection. Just so much faster and simpler. But viewing GUI images sucks... John

The "storing my notes in some sensible format" is high on my list of features. Calle can speak more directly to her needs, but for me I have this giant never ending emacs buffer that's a tangle of web links, snippets of text, random "oh cool ansible" one off commands, etc. It's not scalable, it's on one machine and it lacks good meta data around the entries.. what I can do is say "what were all the links I went to two weeks ago?" Right now I have the equivalent of the pile of somewhat searchable paper two feet high. I've tried to use confluence at work and that product is a horrendous priece of shit. Tim. It's not open source, but I use Obsidian at work.
