Yeah you can limit a sudoer execution to one script or program. Allowing users to start or stop a service

Greetings and happy thanksgiving to all! Now, down to business... We have a set of users who need the power to stop/start their own particular service/daemon. I've tried granting user rights directly to the init script, but that doesn't work. I am looking into sudo, but am not sure it can be specific to only 1 service, and not all of them? let me know what ya'll think and THANKS!

Hi All, this is followup to my original question posted way back in late September of 2004 about printing photos from Linux and finding a good tool crop photos. Gimp is good, gimp is great. It (version 2.2 lately) still sucks for locking down the aspect ratio and scaling the picture up/down to fit on the paper the way you like. But I did find a neat new piece of software, which isn't perfect, but does a pretty good job: photoprint-0.3.0 http://www.blackfiveservices.co.uk/PhotoPrint/About.shtml The other trick was that I went back to using 4x6 as my paper choice, not "Epson 4x6 Photo Paper", since I could *never* get gimp-print to work properly with it. All in all, it's been a bit frustrating trying to find a tool to allow me to crop photos and print them easily to the printer. For a heavy load, I always like building a kernel with 'make -j bzImage modules' and watching it thrash like crazy. Make sure you have a big swap file as well. You'll really work the system.

Heavy load app for linux

Anyone have a app that would put a heavy load on cpu and memory for burn in/testing for linux? I have one called "heavy load" for windows that pushes cpu/memory/disk drives as hard as they will go. We just had an odd server issue and HP replaced random parts till it went away. Before using it, i would like to run it through some tests. thanks mike

Thanks! That gets me a little bit further. After verifying the device exists, I chmod to get permission for /dev/pilot (which is ln'ed to /dev/ttyUSB0). Now when running the gnome-pilot setup, the palm connects, but the setup app doesn't see it. Again, thanks for your help! It's gotten me a little closer to the goal! What is the output of "dmesg" It probally created a serial device in /dev/tts/USB0 or something like that.. The prolific USB-Serial adapter just acts like a plain old rs-232 serial port. Hi all, I need some help! I bought a USB to Serial/parrallel adaptor (IBM 22P5298). Fedora 4 seems to see it in /proc/bus/usb/devices but when I try to hotsync my palm, no connection results. We have had problems with bulging capacitors. After some research, I have found that many different systems have this issue (Dell, Intel, etc. motherboards). Open the BFH (box from hell) and check the caps. They may be bulging on top or even leaking. This is from an electrolyte formula that was stolen from Japan. Good luck!
