XEmacs question - gnuserv/gnuclient

HI gang, I'm running XEmacs 21.1.8 and am playing with gnuserv/gnuclient. Within XEmacs, I do M-x gnuserv-start (which seems OK). In a terminal window on the same machine, I type gnuclient and another XEmacs window pops up quite quickly (as I expect). However, I can't get this to work from another machine on my home network. I played with the xauth stuff and also tried setting the GNU_SECURE environment variable to no avail. Clearly I've done something wrong but I don't know what. Can somebody walk me through the steps? I'm expecting that if I run gnuserv on machine 'tux' that I can set the security so that I can access that gnuserv process from machine 'andypc' by typing the correct incantation of the gnuclient command on 'andypc'. Question about employment opportunities

Hi, I recently re-subscribed to the WLUG users newsletter. I would like to address the following question to all of the network administrators who are members of the WLUG: 1.) What is the best way to become a system administrator? 2.) What exact skills does an employer look for in a perspective client to be a system administrator? 3.) I upgraded the firmware on my router, now realplayer behaves as expected. I don't know what the root of the problem was however. I am not sure whether you said if you can boot up and log in through a text mode terminal. If you do that and type 'startx' you should see some messages on the text mode console that might be useful---things like what video clock settings it is trying to use. New WLUG website

HI everybody, The WLUG website has been moved to a new location. I'd like to thank Rob Bellville for hosting the WLUG website for us for the last 3.5 years! Unfortunately, the ISP that Rob was using is "going away" so the site needed a new home. Chuck Anderson has volunteered to host the WLUG website on his machine - thanks, Chuck! I will still maintain my role to keep the site up to date with meeting announcements and such. The change should be totally transparent to all of you. You will continue to access the site via: http://www.wlug.org You will know if you are seeing the new site since it says "**NEW**" near the top. As the DNS change is propagated around the Internet, eventually you'll all see the new site. Don't freak out if you don't catch the new site immediately...they both have identical content. I won't remove the files from the old site just yet until we're sure that the transition has been completed successfully. If you have problems accessing the site, please let me know. Hostname

Thanks for the help with realaudio. Now it is working fine. My next question concerns how the hostname is published. When I look at the DHCP clients table provided by my router software the windoze boxes have published their hostname correctly but my linux box has published an incorrrect name. When I look at /etc/HOSTNAME the name is 'zeus' however then name that shows up in the clients table is '80'. What am I missing? thx, --mike
